Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Absolutely love these boots, but the right one is just a tad too tight around the calf! Another 1/4-inch would have made them perfect for me.

These are uncomfortable boots. I do not have hard to fit feet, and I ordered my usual size, medium width. Size wise they were fine but the left boot rubbed my ankle badly and the right rubbed against my instep. I am disappointed.

If you're going back and forth on whether to get a pair of these boots in your style choice...do it. Save up for a few months (or, if you're a filthy rich, mustachioed tycoon, take a little off the top of the bed of money you sleep on every night), and do it. I was having a tiny bit of buyer's remorse up until I opened the box and saw these beauties for the first time. Their look and smell brought me right back to when I was a little girl living on a horse ranch. They smell like a saddle! They feel extremely tough. I'm not sure my feet were even made as well as they are (my feet have no heavy duty stitching whatsoever). The shearling lining inside is soft and cushy, and walking in them is easier on my feet than any other boot I've had. And I must mention that any sort of heel on a shoe usually turns me into a stumbling Lucille ball/Jerry Lewis movie hybrid. Not the case with these. The only semi-nitpick is that I was originally looking for something I could wear without socks. They are nice and snuggly when barefoot, but just aren't good for walking in unless you clothe your feet beforehand. That said, they're great for sockless lounging. So I'll settle. VIVA LE FRYES.

I am a huge Frye fan; have several pair. Don't know when they started doing shearling, but these are the most comfortable boots ever! I live in San Diego, but my feet and legs stay the exact same temperature all day long "just right" toasty. I hardly take these off! They look good, and they provide foot support and both attributes lacking in Uggs. I also got the short harness boots, and love those too! Fit true to size.

I purchased this particular boot after spending a lot of time on-line comparing the many other Frye boots. I just love the look of them. I bought my usual size (6.5) but possibly could have gotten a 7 due to all of the shearling lining. I'm confident that the shearling will settle in and the boot size will be fine after break-in. The boots were expensive but the look is worth every cent!

I got really excited when I opened the box and saw these gorgeous boots. But, I am going to return them. The shearling lining is missing in the ankle and heel area, thus going sockless is not possible. Also, the shearling is too thick on the top of the boot as it is too bulky looking under jeans. If Frye would add the shearling lining to the entire boot, and perhaps make the boot 12" tall instead of 14", these would be the most perfect boots in the whole wide world!
