Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

MUCH prettier in person! The brown braid detail is really lovely; I'd say the product is more of a grayish-taupe than a straight light gray though. My normal size fit fine, but I tend to like my cowboy boots to fit more snugly than some given that they will stretch. If you like a looser fit go a half size up. Also, note that the leather is the type that will have variations in color throughout, making them look a bit distressed. Great western boot, don't hesitate!

I am a big fan of Frye boots but I just discovered after buying these boots in black that the Billy style is the best fit for my feet. I would say these are the narrowest of all of Frye's styles, both in the arch and in the toe. My dilemma has always been whether to buy the 7½ and let them rub my heel a little until the shoes break in, or go half a size up, but feel a little like I am wearing clown shoes in the toe, while my narrow feet slip around a bit in the last. Because the Billy is so narrow, the size 8 fits me great. If you are sort of in between sizes in Frye, definitely try this style. Additionally, I think the heel is the perfect height. The chunky Frye heels are great for comfort, but can often make the shoes feel a bit too heavy, especially if you are sizing up, but the low heel on the Billy is perfect. My calves are about 16" and I usually have problems getting high boots to fit, but again, these boots fit fine around the calf for me. I could not get my jeans inside the boot, but I could easily wear them with tights or leggings. These are my new favorite boots!

Cute boot but really narrow! I am a true size 8 med and have a high arch. I could not get my foot into the boot at all. I am thin and tall. I will try another style of Frye.

I was so sad to have to return these boots - they are gorgeous. Unfortunately they were just a tad too tight in the calf.

Pointy toe makes these shoes hard on a wide foot. Ended up with the square toe of the Billy Harness, which are awesome and a more versatile "cowboy boot" style.
