Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I wanted a cap toe boot that was made in the USA. I looked at several brands and styles before choosing the Frye Arkansas Brogue in Dark Brown. This a great boot. It looks exactly as shown on Zappos.com, so no surprises. Though the boot seems to be a little over priced, it is well made (and made in the USA). The sizing runs a bit large. I normally wear a 9.5D and needed a 9D in this boot. The fit is nice and it's nicely lined. It will require a break in period, but is still comfortable out of the box. I expect with a little wear they'll get even more comfortable. The leather soles are nice, but I'll probably put a non-slip pad on the sole of each boot, to keep from slipping and to help keep the leather sole from wearing out to quickly. All in all, I don't think you'll be sorry for purchasing these boots.

Boot looks great. When I first got it, I was a bit worried that the leather was to stiff, but after a week of wearing, it has softened. Now it is much more comfortable. My only concern is that I have been wearing the shoe for only a week, and I can tell that I will need to replace the sole within a year, if not less. This was somewhat expected since it is a leather sole. At least this is the type of shoe where the sole can be replaced.

I can not remember which website I bought these boots but the maufacturer is the same anyway. Probably trying to take off the boots, yesterday I noticed that the sole/heel got off the upper/leather in the back of the boots. Both feet. It is obvious that the sole and the upper leather were not glued but there were only six nails (one bent in both sides) and very centered. I raised the bottom lining to check. I have worked in a shoe factory for seven years and I am familiar with the technology. Besides I am very careful with footweares and take good care of them. Have too many pairs of boots and shoes. Being expensive I thought this would be a good investment but after wearing them not more than 15-20 times this is the result. I took them today to shoe repair shop. I am not I in the US. I am in Albania now otherwise I would have contacted FRYE for their poor quality. Please forward this review to them to improve the quality. Bad experience.
I'd also recommend: I am fan of Frye as I have other boots (dakota). I love RED WING and WALKOVER.
