This shoe runs about 1/2 size too large, sides of shoe opening are high and a bit wide, causing potential chafing against the outside ankle bone. Fit is probably ideal for those with fairly high arches. However, the shoe's foot bed was comfortable and its conservative styling is dead-on for grown-up formal wear. Balmoral shoes like these are meant to be worn "straight-laced" as in the picture shown. Mine came laced zig-zag like an athletic shoe. Not a big deal to re-do, but it affects the fit markedly, so be forewarned. Will return and try these again in a smaller size before deciding whether to write off completely.

Fantastic shoe; wore it all day right out of the box. Extremely comfortable, molds to your foot; I like a high gloss shine, and wear this shoe with cords, chinos, suits, slacks etc. Little maintenance required to keep the glossy finish, just a quick wipe. Also love the slippery leather soles, always fun, which breathe & again mold to your foot; won't ever pay $300 for a similar designer shoe that has plastic/rubber soles. These are a great buy for the price, and Zappos had them here in 36 hours. Wish they were also available in brown/cordovan.

Nice shoe. Real leather in-and-out. But size runs bigger than normal. Order 1/2 size smaller if you want a good fit.

Perfect shoe for the price. Quality construction and a very sharp looking American style shoe. Zappos came through when I was in a pinch - new tux and needed shoes right away for a black tie affair. Great shoes, great service, and the advice on line that they run about a half size too small was good info.

These are in fact tuxedo shoes. Other shoes show up as "formal" but are just dress shoes. Very comfortable and wear well. Very good value.

Shoe looks like patent. Leather lining was nice. No made for a wide foot and I was afraid the stiff leather top would crack.

My husband has very wide feet. He never has good tuxedo shoes. These were great and very comfortable. He danced all night.

Great and affordable classic patent leather shoe. Has the high quality you would expect from Florsheim. The leather is very supple; this is not some cheap, plastic, patent leather shoe. Very comfortable. Always use shoe trees and brush off your shoes with a horse hair brush after use and they will last a very long time.

These shoes are going to be perfect. I'm a Freemason and as an officer of my lodge I'm required to wear a tuxedo. During our degree rituals I'm often on my feet standing in place for more than 40 minutes. It sounds easier than it really is, especially if you're wearing uncomfortable shoes. These new shoes feel like pillows on my feet, fit perfect and look great. They were a great price as well. Buy these shoes and you'll love them too.

This is an absolutely silly design for a formal shoe. It has 3 nails nailed into each heel, so if one wanted to uses these shoes for dancing, a not unreasonable idea for a formal shoe, one would eventually leaves scratches all over the hardwood floor. Also it has a metal insignia on the bottom which will have to removed or risk more scraping. Why? I see now Zappo's has a picture of the bottom of each shoe. I wish I had availed myself of this before. I would have saved a lot of time and effort. It just never occurred to me I had to worry about such a thing.
