These shoes are superb! Especially if you are looking for a shoe that you can hike to the crag without suffering and running a few pitches at a comfortable grade without needing a change of footwear. Think the Exum Ridge or the like. But my favorite off label usage for these shoes? Mountain biking. I often have a need to use my mountain bike at work and sometimes ride, sometimes hike and these shoes are the perfect fit for that hybrid need. The rubber is so sticky, you almost feel "clipped in" on the bike, but can then, even with bike shouldered, hike up slabs with nary a slip! Or put down the bike and climb a desert tower!

These are the best shoes of this kind I've ever owned. They're lightweight without being flimsy and unstable, they're really comfortable, and perfect for all the ways you need, light hiking, running around and generally better than sneakers shoes. True to size, really great looking too, I might add. I loved them so much that I got a 2nd pair just in case they stop making them.

Great shoes. I have been looking for a general \\\'urban hiking\\\' shoe for quite some time and these have been great- both stylish and comfortable. I use them for trekking about town and for occasional biking. Rubber hugs the ground, so I imagine they would hike/climb well too. Very cute, nice fit and comfortable.

These shoes are comfortable with a nice wide toe box. I have bunions and trouble with my feet, and these feel fine on; the only criticism I have of them is that they feel like they need more padding inside. That\'s easy to fix with an OTC insole. I wasn\'t expecting how CUTE these are! Also got a pair of Ahnu\'s which are actually more comfortable but these are so much cuter. These are keepers for sure, as is Zappo\'s. Great customer service. I ordered these online on a Saturday and had them at my doorstep on Tuesday. Thank you, Zappo\'s!
Brands I'd also recommend: ahnu--more comfortable, just not as cute.

This is a great shoe for kicking around town or doing an urban hike. The shoes have a very technical/sporty look - think off-duty rock climber - and the soles have excellent traction. The shoes come with a set of gray shoelaces, which is handy if the orange laces don\'t match your outfit. These fit true to size and have good arch support. I normally wear orthotics to correct low arch/overpronation, but found that I don\'t need to put them in these shooes. I\'ve walked 2-3 miles at a time in these shoes with no arch pain nor blisters.

About Five Ten
A family owned company, 5.10 (also known as Five Ten) has stood at the forefront of fine craftsmanship, high-performance and fashion forward technical designs within the outdoor industry since 1985. Born with a rich rock climbing heritage, 5.10 is known worldwide for the high-quality, fit and friction of their shoes, where footwear can make the difference between success and failure. Today, they continue to bring their climbing heritage to all of their products, as well as exciting innovation, quality craftsmanship and unmatched durability. Climbers, kayakers, mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, canyoneers, and everyone else who wants technical/fashionable outdoor footwear depend on 5.10 for safety, state-of-the-art innovation, and out-of-the-box comfort.
As a huge climbing enthusiast, Charles Cole, founder and President of 5.10, knows that a good grip on a well-made shoe means everything. Determined to create a better rubber to make climbing easier, Charles developed Stealth© rubber soles, which increase the amount of body weight the rubber could bear before its bond broke away from the rock. By merely purchasing a new shoe, climbers could better climb with a sure-footed grip. Pushing the envelope even further, Cole continues to expand 5.10 soles even further with Stealth© S1, Stealth© C4, Stealth© HF (high friction), Stealth© Amphibia (water compatible), and Stealth© ONYXX, which provides 25% more friction and is twice as durable as any other climbing rubber available.
Stealth© rubber was just the tip of the iceberg for Cole and 5.10. Responsible for today's modern rock shoe design, Cole invented a plethora of firsts which include: the first sling shot rand, the first down-turned last, the first heel wedge to cushion impact, adding pull tabs on both climbing and approach shoes, baseball stitching to alleviate hot spots, graded midsoles to adjust the shoe's flexibility to different weights, the first self-draining water shoe and the first ankle to toe lacing on an approach shoe to allow for a performance custom fit. Throughout the years, there have been various 5.10 innovations, and in the years yet to come, their dedication will lead to many more.
As the shoe-of-choice for the world's top climbers, 5.10 is 100% committed to innovation and performance. All of their unique footwear designs have been produced with one goal in mind: to do what is best for outdoor sports athletes who use 5.10 shoes. From hiking to paddling to mountain biking, recreational and expert athletes alike know that Five Ten means more than footwear- Five Ten shoes are essential equipment for adventure. Rest assured that 5.10 is working hard on next season's models and that they will be bringing something wild, new and exciting into the world of adventure sports.
Five Ten Where unique comfort, durability and technological advances combine to create the best footwear in the world.

These are perfect for my weekend day hikes. I feel more “sure-footed and I think they look even better than pictured. I ordered 1/2 size larger than normal to compensate for the thickness of the sport socks I prefer and the fit is very good. Zappos service is second to none!

I bought these for a recent trip to NYC. I wanted something comfortable but didn't want a tennis shoe. These were perfect for long days walking around the city, a very comfortable shoe.

I love my new Five Ten Guide Tennies. I had never worn this brand before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm super picky about my footwear - both in terms of style and because my feet are a bit wide, so comfort and fit are very important and difficult to find. These are great on all counts. I bought these to be used as sort of a multi-purpose sport shoe (hiking, biking, and walking) and they're great for all activities. But they're so great looking with pants and shorts; I wear them while running around in the city. They do tend to run a little small, though, so size up about half a size.

My 8M has a good fit for me. The footbed does not have an arch support. However, the shoe still was easy and comfortable to walk in. The good news for me is that my plantar fascia orthotic does fit inside. This shoe was comfortable right out of the box, a little stiff but that's expected. I plan to use these for everyday out and about use. I have a very narrow heel and wider ball of the foot so I like that they lace up from the beginning of the toe box all the way up giving me the ability to tailor the support. Cute shoe too!

These shoes are amazing for climbing approaches. The sole is thin so your foot doesn't roll on steep terrain. The shoe fits snugly so you can comfortably edge. Dries pretty quickly. Great traction. A little soft for aid climbing, but the trade off is that they're low profile and easy to get in and out of aiders. Taken them up as my backpacking shoe of choice now too! My only complaint is that a lot of dirt and sand get in them because the lacing goes all the way to the toe.

The day after I got these my husband and I went to Seneca Rocks, WV to climb. These shoes were extremely comfortable as we hiked over rocks and steep hills. During the weekend I repeatedly said how much I liked these shoes. Again, they were comfortable and perfect for the backcountry.

Terrific shoe for platform bicycle pedals. I currently own 3 bicycles (mountain, road and hybrid/cruiser). I was having trouble keeping my feet on the cruiser pedals at speeds of above 14 mph I'm used to clipless pedals, but wanted a bike/pedal combination that would give me great "stickiness" on the bike pedals with the added ability to 'hike' a bit during biking day trips. Five Ten Guide Tennie W are just what I needed. I tried my Keens, but even the Keens slipped off the pedals. I wear with thorlo hiking socks and the laces pretty loose so I don't feel the lack of support. They are also very cute and well made.

These are simply wonderful. Incredibly well made and very comfortable out of the box. I am a 7½ in street shoes and a 7 in dress shoes. I ordered the 7½ in these and they are perfect. I am excited to use them for scrambling and impromptu bouldering sessions. For this type of use they should be snug but the tips of your toes should not touch. The laces are designed to really tighten up if you want to be more aggressive (think running around on sandstone in Moab or exploring a slot canyon off the Colorado... yay!) So, if you are just looking for a cool street shoe I would definitely go half a size up.

These were a little snug at first, but I feel that they molded to my feet better after my first hike & scramble (approximately 4 miles). They are super sticky and great on the rocks. Watch out for loose crap as these can get a little slippery on that kind of terrain. Another fellow hiker has these and loves them.

Definitely has the look of a rock climbing shoe and fit my narrow heeled, wider toe box well, very well but there was not much arch support and my orthotic did not fit in it in the arch section. This was my first Five Ten and I would come back to try it again sometime. The shoe itself is a great looking run around shoe but if there was a second set of laces like one of the reviewers indicated, they weren't there so if orange is not really your color, you are out of luck! The sole is definitely sticky but the plastic arch area (the light colored plastic in the sole) was a little strange (noisy) and not supportive enough nor pliant enough for my insert to fit. They feel a bit like of Merrell sandals (tho their shoes are a bit too narrow now in the toe area for me) so if you like Merrell and don't use orthotics, then the Five Ten Guide might work well for you! I ordered my "real" size 7.5 Medium and they were fine with my running socks. And, these shoes are lightweight!
Brands I'd also recommend: Read my comments above. If you have my foot, Clarke Artisan, Wave, and Un-lines, Born (if you don't need orthotics), Brooks, Merrell (also if you don't need orthotics), some Ecco styles, Moto, and Chacos lace up style shoes.
