Excellent shoes. The grip will last forever and works really well, and the shoe itself is extremely comfortable, though it\'s tough and durable. Excellent free-running (or any exercise, really) shoes.

The rubber rubs off somewhat easily. Some surfaces it doesn't get quite as good grip as it should. But overall, it's a good quality shoe.

I’ve had my Alien Glows for about six months now. Throughout that time I’ve used them about three times a week for Parkour training. They are still going strong, and I prefer them more now from when I first got them. The rubber is unbeatable on rock and concrete, although for the first month they are a bit stiff and dangerous for precisions onto rails. However, once the sole got worn in and softened up, my confidence in rail precisions returned. Basically their best feature is the very simple, thin, and sticky sole which does not collapse or break, even after thousands of jumps. This is the single most important aspect of a parkour shoe. Their worst feature has to be the cotton thread used to stitch the upper, which wears out quite quickly. I believe a nylon thread would have been better. Also, the rubber toe rand is awesome except that it ends a little too early. In short, best shoes I’ve ever used.

Great shoes. Sturdy construction, clean look, and super sticky sole. However, I needed to add arch supports. Thanks Zappos for the great service.

Well, I’ve been looking for a decent freerunning shoe for some time now as I’ve just been using my running shoes and they never really had that much grip. My Alien Glows just got here today, so I immediately took them out for a spin. The first thing I tried was a wall-run straight up a brick wall, and I was amazed! I actually scared myself when I ended up flying another 3-4 feet higher than I usually do on wall runs, as every step solidly stuck into the wall. I’ll take ‘em on a real freerunning test drive this weekend, and I expect great things from these shoes.

Five Ten – Inspired by the impossible

A family owned company, 5.10 (also known as Five Ten) has stood at the forefront of fine craftsmanship, high-performance and fashion forward technical designs within the outdoor industry since 1985. Born with a rich rock climbing heritage, 5.10 is known world-wide for the high-quality, fit and friction of their shoes, where footwear can make the difference between success and failure. Today, they continue to bring their climbing heritage to all of their products, as well as exciting innovation, quality craftsmanship and unmatched durability. Climbers, kayakers, mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, canyoneers, and everyone else who wants technical/fashionable outdoor footwear depend on 5.10 for safety, state-of-the-art innovation, and out-of-the-box comfort.

As a huge climbing enthusiast, Charles Cole, founder and President of 5.10, knows that a good grip on a well-made shoe means everything. Determined to create a better rubber to make climbing easier, Charles developed Stealth® rubber soles, which increase the amount of body weight the rubber could bear before its bond broke away from the rock. By merely purchasing a new shoe, climbers could better climb with a sure-footed grip. Pushing the envelope even further, Cole continues to expand 5.10 soles even further with Stealth® S1, Stealth® C4, Stealth® HF (high friction), Stealth® Amphibia (water compatible), and Stealth® ONYXX, which provides 25% more friction and is twice as durable as any other climbing rubber available.

Stealth® rubber was just the tip of the iceberg for Cole and 5.10. Responsible for today’s modern rock shoe design, Cole invented a plethora of firsts which include: the first sling shot rand, the first down-turned last, the first heel wedge to cushion impact, adding pull tabs on both climbing and approach shoes, baseball stitching to alleviate hot spots, graded midsoles to adjust the shoe’s flexibility to different weights, the first self-draining water shoe and the first ankle to toe lacing on an approach shoe to allow for a performance custom fit. Throughout the years, there have been various 5.10 innovations, and in the years yet to come, their dedication will lead to many more.

As the shoe-of-choice for the world's top climbers, 5.10 is 100% committed to innovation and performance. All of their unique footwear designs have been produced with one goal in mind: to do what is best for outdoor sports athletes who use 5.10 shoes. From hiking to paddling to mountain biking, recreational and expert athletes alike know that Five Ten means more than footwear- Five Ten shoes are essential equipment for adventure. Rest assured that 5.10 is working hard on next season’s models and that they will be bringing something wild, new and exciting into the world of adventure sports.

Five Ten – Where unique comfort, durability and technological advances combine to create the best footwear in the world.

Running? Hey I use these shoes as climbing approach shoes (go figure). I would want a more cushioned shoe with a wider platform for running. Approach shoe...can't beat the rubber, toe shape is good, but heel feels a bit sloppy. Looks are great, people of human origin and otherwise love the alien glow. Zappos Rocks.

The Freerunners are an amazing shoe. Not only do they get me to the crag and back, but I live on a farm and they are my shoe of choice when it comes to working. No shoe compares in comfort and rubber quality.

Five Ten Alien Glow Freerunner - I heard good reviews about the Five Ten Alien Glow, so I decided to buy it. Pros: The grip is as sticky as it's advertised. It sounds like you’re walking on a sticky movie theater ground. Very Stable Sole and heel support - an improvement from the freerunner v1. The material feels durable. Cons (for me): I actually disliked the increased sole support because it was too thick, and didn't feel like I had that flexibility you get when you wear very old shoes. I have been wearing them for a while but they still feel rather chunky to me. These shoes are light weight, no doubt, compared to the 5.10 daesents, these shoes are pretty heavy. About the looks: I think the shoe looks fine from the sides and front, but if you’re wearing the shoes and looking from your POV, they look pretty bulky. The green isn't as bad as a lot of people said it was. About the sole: Mine actually felt better when I took of the sole. It made my feet feel a lot less stuffy in my shoes. I'm not flat footed, but the shoe's sole was a problem for me. After some breaking in, it felt better, but not the best. Last thoughts: I've never tried out a five ten freerunner v1, but I believe I might enjoy it better because of less stability. For you Traceurs out there, this means you'll have to refine your technique to match.

I’ve been using these for almost a year and so far it’s been an OK experience. The soles have had excellent grip on nearly all solid surfaces and they really haven’t worn out very fast. The rubber that wraps over the toe, however, has seriously cracked and lost its integrity in only a couple months. I always keep them inside and out of the sun/heat, so that’s not the issue. The ankle support has really not been there, perhaps in the interest of flexibility, but the heel cup has definitely deformed so that the heel no longer sits in the centre, and is now slightly to the lateral. The shoes have great impact absorption and allow me landings from rather large drops.

Overall good shoe - This is a great shoe for all traceurs and freerunners it has terrific grip on concrete and they provide great ankle support. My only complaint would be how badly they mark floors. If you’re on tile beware even walking can occasionally leave a mark but it certainly still is my number one choice for a shoe I plan on re-ordering when mine get too small. They were also shipped extremely fast which was great.

This shoe is super comfortable and works really well on all surfaces (except wet rails and painted walls, but find me a shoe that works on them and I’ll buy those). I put some green Superfeet insoles in them and they fit exceptionally well... Quad motion feels great, so does rail to rail. The areas where your feet need the shoe the most, they are there for you. Minus points for a cheezy license plate logo on the back... but overall a good shoe!

New Parkour Shoe - Lately, I've been parkour and free run training with a pair of Adidas running shoes, which have been my favorite for comfort and support... but unfortunately the grip gave away way too fast. I have just purchased these bad boys and immediately tried them on as soon as they arrived and I have to say that so far I am not at all disappointed with them... these guys rock! In a sense they feel as if I'm training in Converse, another favorite shoe, but with more grip and a groovy color design. The layer under the insole is indeed hard, but that's because they're designed for rock climbing and whatnot. So I went ahead and slipped a pair of polysorbs under the original insoles and wa-la comfort! With that aside, these are awesome on most surfaces, but not so good on smooth surfaces, unfortunately. Overall, good shoes.

Decent Shoe - Alien Glow - I got these for my 12 year old son who wanted them for Free Running. He has sensory issues and many shoes bother him in some way or another. He syas he likes them because “they are not too uncomfortable”. That really does say a lot coming from him! He loves the Alien Glow look. They DO run small. They don't look like much more than the old running shoes from the late 70's - early 80's style-wise, but seem sturdier.

Good on rock or at the pub - Very comfortable, great grip on wet rock, pretty good for spontaneous bouldering, and style for town.

Kinda lame - Very disappointed, I usually buy the Camp Four-which I would consider The REAL deal when looking for an all around technical movement shoe. This shoe is cheap hardly worth half the cash one pays for a pair. Shock absorption is horrible and the just kinda felt weird on my feet.

Free Runner - Awesome shoe! I recommend these against the Ariakes. Great freerunning shoe. Very light and durable. The sole is amazing, especially on rough surfaces. You will stick! Not recommended on painted surfaces or handrails. Maybe for the new models they will upgrade the materials so that it is sticky on painted surfaces. The style is also neutral so that you can wear it to school or work. Overall great shoe!

Excellent free running shoe - Great shoe, very responsive and it transfers a lot of feeling of the terrain to the feet and has decent shock resistance. I found that if you use this shoe in "rural" or off-road conditions the lacings are vulnerable to damage. Other than that, rock solid. Racing tires for a free runner.
