Boots are comfortable requiring no break in period. They do run wide, however, necessitating a fairly heavy sock. I don't feel there is much arch support so if you have a high instep, you may need a firmer footbed.
Brands I'd also recommend: Born; ugg

These boots are even more beautiful than the photo indicates. The brown is a very rich color and the gold trim really sets them off. I've worn them all afternoon evening while shopping and hiking. I also have the Ecco GTX boot in black. No regrets!

I've had several pairs of Ecco boots and loved them. These are very attractive boots, but they are a bit wider than I expected and may require extra steps to make them work. I may return and try again for the perfect black boot.

The fit and quality of this boot area were really good for me. But I didn't like the cheesy gold buckle at the bottom, and the color was too orangey for me. It is a great boot for someone with smaller calves. Mine are 13" and it fit great.

These boots are amazingly beautiful. They fit narrower calves (mine are around 13", and 14" with jeans) well. The leather is a little stiffer and the quality is great. Love the color, which I can still wear on some of the chilly spring days in the Northeast. I agree with some of the reviews that the footbed is on the wider side -- I actually like that because my feet are wider at the front and with bunions. I can wear these boots all day without feeling my little toes slightly squeezed in the end of the day. I also like it that 39 is wide enough for me that I do not have to go up one size up just to accommodate my wide feet. Zappos is also great in shipping that the boots arrived so fast.
