Docs are awesome! Quality at its best, last forever in any weather condition. Made of leather unlike most boots on the market now. Fit is true to size. If you love a unique style and comfort, these boots are for you!

Wow, these are tall boots - I love these boots! They are tall, almost up to the knee tall. They do take forever to lace up but that is to be expected. They are leather so they do squeak. And the leather seems a bit thinner than past Docs I have bought. All that being said they are comfortable and great looking. My only true complaint is that I wish the laces were longer. I have well developed calves and I have to skip some holes if I want to tie the boots.

Very Nice Boots - These boots are great. I know that they have great quality and durability and will probably last forever. The only thing bad I can say is that it takes FOREVER to lace them up.

Not very happy with the boots but Zappos is fantastic - Zappos service and shipping is superb! The boots on the other hand....well... I could not wait for my new boots to arrive. They look fantastic and are comfortable enough to wear but they have a terrible squeaking noise when I walk. They seem to be made from very cheap leather. It’s like a cheap leather coating that just does not soften up. I have tall leather riding boots that are made of real supple leather and I can soften them up and using the same secrets on these boots it just does not work. I keep these in my closet and I love looking at them and imagining how perfect they would be if I could wear them!!!

Wish they stayed true English - My order came super fast; thank you Zappos great service. Now about the boots, I have Doc's from 95 & 98 in my closet, yes they are worn but still look good and wearable. (shoe polish is my friend.) This pair although good looking I find the lip (which is long) is verrrry thin and they didn't do anybody a favour with their new soles pretty sure these will be gone before the other ones sad to say. But will enjoy them for what they are worth.

Additional Brand Information

One of the most respected and well-know icons in the world, Dr. Martens' boots, shoes, work shoes, and sandals continue to set the standard for durability, comfort and fashion. Dr. Martens's trademark look and quality construction has been recognized world-wide since 1960.

Where the classic 1460 style was being used by mailmen, union workers, and factory workers, it soon became popular among the masses. The 1460 continues to thrive, symbolizing individualism, originality, and taps into a individual's unique style who's willing to make that bold statement.

Dr. Martens doesn't think of itself as a "shoe" brand, but rather a way of thinking, a self-expression if you must. Popularly known as Doc Martens, they allow you to feel free to rock your grunge shorts, spike up your hair to the heavens, showoff your body art, whatever floats your boat. So whether you call them Dr. Martens, Doc Martens or just Docs there are no limits to your creativity.

My first pair of Docs... I was skeptical at first about buying this boot due to the warnings about the boot not fitting well for people with large calves. I have a 15" circumference starting about 12-13 inches from my heel, and wasn't sure if the boot would fit. I did not want a zip-up boot, despite the fact that they do have a slightly larger circumference. I ordered a UK 7 and the boot fits me fairly well- definitely a keeper. Like others, I do wish the shaft was 2-3 inches taller, because they are not actually knee high. My few times lacing the boots, I gave myself 3 blisters from pulling the laces, and breaking them in is quite a chore; don't buy them if you do not want to invest a little time (& pain) in making them comfortable.

I’ve got my boots seven months ago and since then I don’t leave home without them. I wear ‘em long hours and take them off only before going to bed. I found out that on those hot summer days they’re most comfortable with the thinnest socks. I use cyclist-like socks which are very thin, low, and made of light material (polyester or something). It’s almost like wearing ‘em barefoot. I actually like the feeling of the leather against my naked skin. If I’m in hurry in the morning, I know I need to wake up 7 minutes earlier to lace them up.

I got a pair of these boots 10 years ago, and while they are still wearable, I felt like I needed to get a new pair. After a huge hassle buying and exchanging these with another online shoe company, I decided to try Zappos. I'm glad I did. Zappos is slightly more expensive, yes, but they make up for it with their quick shipment. I ordered these boots late Saturday night (so they didn't go out until Monday) and got them on Monday. They upgraded me for some reason to next day shipping even though I paid for second day. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Between Zappos excellent service to its customers, and the great look of these boots, I am very happy today. I put my boots on as soon as they came, they fit perfect, look perfect, and I don't plan to take them off until it hurts! :D

These boots take some break-in time, but they are surely worth it. Love the look and height of the boots. Save some time for lace-up though!

Devoted Dr. Marten fan in D.C. This was my first experience in using Zappos. The price, selection and the service were excellent. Its great way to buy shoes. I ordered a size 8 like my old ones, but they were too small, so I returned them for a size 9. Since they are no longer made in England the size apparently runs about a full size smaller. I have worn 20 Eye Doc's since I entered the 7th grade. Now, I am out of college for several years and working full time. When I was in the 6th grade several other guys had Doc Marten boots and I began asking my parents to get me a pair of the 20 eyes like my friends. They were very reluctant, since I didn't take care of my clothes and shoes. Finally, they bought me a pair upon entering the 7th grade. I was really proud of them, rolling up my jeans or tucking them in to show off my boots. They became the only shoes I wore, except for gym class. When I out grew my other shoes my mother gave them away and bought me a new pair of Doc's. Other than a pair of converse high tops and a pair of 20 eye Gripfast boots, they are the only shoes I have owned for the last 20 years. My present pair, which were made in England I've had for quite a few years. They are almost totally worn out, the leather is beginning to crack and split and the heels and soles are worn flat. Even so, they still shine up. I hate to give them up they are so comfortable. I have worn them everywhere: from every day casual, hiking, biking, even to my best friend's black tie wedding. I wear them to work dressed for business every day, as well. Perhaps, they are no longer the fashion statement they were when I was in college. Now I wear them because they are incredibly comfortable. I wear from morning till night. Guys, they are great. I hope my new ones break in to be as comfortable and as long lasting as my old ones.

Good Shoe - Buy in Advance! This shoe is great... once it's worn in. Be prepared to work this shoe in if you want to wear it for a specific occasion. Thick (or a couple pair of) socks should help. After that, it's good times.

Dr. Martens Boots Review - I’m reviewing here both the 1940 and the 9663 models of Dr Martens. I’m riding a motorcycle and have decided to buy some boots to block the winter wind when I ride. I initially bought the 1940 and immediately loved them. They did feel a bit large but I lace them tight and it’s fine. This was my ever first boot and I was so thrilled with the feeling so I went on and bought also the taller 9663 (nearly knee-high); what can I say... awesome boots! The leather of the 9663 is smoother and slicker, and in fact even though they are much taller than the 1940, it seems they weigh less. If you have a budget for one pair, I would say go for the 9663. I find the 1940 more comfortable for motorcycle gear shifting due to the bulky toe box. Overall both models are great and I wear them all the time even when I’m not riding. (Of course, I wear them under my pants and not on-top like some riders do.) As for the online purchasing, I actually bought each pair from a different retailer. The service was good in both cases; I just went with the least expensive retailer. Hope it helps.

Looking Good! I got these for a gift for my son. As usual Zappos shipped them right away. The boots arrived within just a few days. The boots are awesome. They look great, quality leather and stitching. The fit is great I think they should come in half sizes which I don't think they do. My son says they are very comfortable and because they lace all the way up they hold his foot and feel supportive.

Never off My daughters feet - She's 14 and these were the only thing she asked for Christmas. And she is lovin' them! They are surprisingly lightweight. We have other Doc's 1/4 the height and twice the weight. They do run small as stated in other reviews. Our other Doc's are a 7 but in these she needed an 8. I have to say they are really cool looking and she says they are very comfortable. Of course Zappos made my holiday shopping a little easier. If this is your style ~ go for it!

Worked great for me........ I was a little set back about getting these boots after reading all the reviews, but glad I took the risk. Guess I am one of the lucky ones, that got a great fit the first time. I am a six foot man with pretty thick calves, and these boots fit me perfect. Little stiff for sure, but overall I can see how nice they will look and feel six months from now. Bought mine due to lots of snakes where I live, and these will sure do the trick. I wear 10 1/2 size, and went with the 11 size. Thanks for all the tips on here...... Later.

NICE!!! Well what can I say? Well #1, buy a size bigger. I bought size 10 UK after trying DOCS of the same size and them fitting well. After receiving I found that they were too tight. #2, great boots. I’m a "goth" I guess and they are great looking. I might buy a pair in red if I get the money. #3, Zappos customer service is great. I got straight answers and the return policy is great. So if u don’t like the boots don’t hesitate to send um back. Well good luck. U will look brutal in these boots.

Different fit, but great look and feel - Though I have some more "regular" size 9 Docs purchased from another retailer (softer leather, less than 12 holes) which fit my 9.5 size feet, the 9663 models required me to go a size up rather than down for fit. After getting the size 10 replacement (thank you Zappos for a hassle-free--and free!!--return/exchange process), the break in period began. After wearing them for a few hours at a stretch for a few days, flexing my ankles and using some leather conditioner (Lexol works just fine), they are feeling more supple and look great. Figure on a good 3-4 minutes for lacing each one though!

Cool boots, but not for the thick calved - I got these boots as a graduation present, and I picked this pair since I’ve always wanted a pair of knee high boots. Turns out my calves are too fat for them to lace up all the way and not look stupid (I tried lacing them up with longer laces, but the tongue was not wide enough and my leg showed through the sides... not very attractive). Otherwise I loved them. They fit really well in the foot and looked great. But I’m going to have to send them back, since they just don't work with my chunk-o calves. I guess knee high boots just aren't for me. The boots were ordered on Friday and I got them on Monday, so hooray for Zappos' speedy service! I’ll definitely consider ordering from Zappos again.

Love them! I had my first pair of Docs 20 years ago, and they lasted long, even though at the time I wore them every day. That was when they were still all made in the UK though, and I noticed these now are made in China. They look like they will be the same quality but of course you can't tell until they've been worn a lot. The look of these tall boots is just awesome, it takes a while to lace them up (had no problem at all with the laces being too short, but I have skinny legs). They are not quite knee-high, as a previous reviewer also marked, but I think the height is just fine. I did not have to break these in for comfort at all, but they were quite squeaky the first time I wore them. Overall I am super-happy with these!

I have a pair of these boots from years ago, and I recently got a new pair from Zappos. I can't emphasize enough that you have to know what you're getting into to break these boots in, but if you give them the time and care they will serve you well for years and years. And there is no other copycat boot that can compare to the look and the quality of these Docs.
