Three years ago I got the unisex 9663, which is Smooth leather, for my motorcycle riding and loved them right out of the box. I wear them a lot and not only for riding. Last month I decided to buy the 1B60. I don\'t understand why these are women only, the design is very similar to the 9663 only with a zipper. Anyway, I bought the Black Illusion (in this website it\'s called Black, but on others and in the DM official site it\'s called Black Illusion), and I really like them. People should understand that there is a huge difference between the Smooth leather and the Black Illusion: the Smooth is indeed stiff and cast your leg firmly; whereas the Black Illusion is soft leather with finer wrinkles. I think that for the 1B60 the Black Illusion is more suitable due to the zipper. I recently looked in the DM official site and it looks like they came out with new Smooth leather, they call it Black Buttero, which seems softer than the regular Smooth. \r\n

Ouch. The leather in these are too stiff. They are just painful. With a zipper and laces you'd think the fit would be adjustable, but somehow they are baggy in the ankle. Sadly I will have to return these.

Love these boots; took forever (like, a year!) to break-in, no lie. And, the laces barely made it to the top, because I have large-ish calves. I'm short (5'2"), and these just hit under my knees. But once-broken in, they're very comfortable & warm. Great for the cold snowy winters. Give my outfits a rockin' edge. Sexy, fierce. Awesome.

Okay, I just bought the matte finish leather, not the patent, and they are amazing! Before buying them I read the critical reviews, saying how stiff and terrible around the ankles they are. Well, I have small ankles and they feel delicious to me. When you get a pair of these you know you're getting a high quality durable shoe, so it needs time to soft up and conform to you. But that only means the deliciousness will last longer. The sexiest style Dr. Martens offers! Soles are so comfy! And Zappos service is genius. Putting videos of their products, multiples photos, quick service, good return policy. Can't go wrong with Zappos. Can't go wrong with Dr. Martens. It's like they put the two best things in the world together. So sexy and great price!
I'd also recommend: guess, frye, bcbg, 7 for all mankind, miss me

I just got my boots yesterday and I'm in love! I wore them around the house all night and did not have any discomfort at all. I did wear boot socks because I know that leather boots take some breaking in. The only parts that are stiff are the toe and heel, but that's to be expected =) The soles are very comfortable as well, nicely cushioned. I am a US size 8.5, I got the UK size 6 and they fit me just right. I am VERY pleased with my purchase and might be coming back to order the cherry red boots, too!

These boots take a long time to break in, but are sexy and durable. I love the grips on the bottom of the boots; that's hard to get in a ladies' boot.
