DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it´s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.
Throughout the 1990s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.
A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

I purchased this case right before a trip to the Midwest. It easily fit into the overhead compartment because of its nearly flush wheels. The black-stripped fabric is distinctive from all the plain black cases one sees. The 6lb. weight, 2600 cubic inch capacity, and quality zippers are all outstanding. My biggest disappointment is that I was hoping for a stable case that would not tip over to the front or back. Not so, it only has two wheels attached to the hard frame. The front balancing pegs are located on the soft fabric bottom of the case, which easily compresses and throws off the balance. I had to grab the case frequently to prevent it from falling over. In addition, there is no split level feature in this case, no interior straps to prevent content from sliding around or falling out during inspections. And it has a poorly fitting removable interior lining that is held in place by a few Velcro attachment points.

We bought the 2 overhead cases because our standard overheads actually didn't fit most planes. They were too rigid. The Dakines are softer and fit the overhead compartments even on the smaller planes. And they hold the same amount of stuff. We went to CA with them and actually got complements on our luggage from other travelers. The only thing I would like to see upgraded is the wheels. It would be easier if they were to spin.

I recently used the Dakine Overhead for the first time for a five day trip. It was exactly what I needed. Everything fit nicely into the bag; it was easy to handle and even packed, light enough to lift into the overhead compartment. I will be purchasing another one for my husband.

This bag is perfect! I travel over 50% of the time and needed something durable, comfortable to carry, lightweight, which wouldn't break the bank. The Dakine Overhead fits the bill! It's sturdy, looks good, and is great for long weekends up to a 5-day trip. It definitely fits more than I bargained for. I plan to use this bag for a long time to come!
