DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it´s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.
Throughout the 1990s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.
A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

This is a beautifully designed backpack that was obviously very well thought out. I still cannot believe the height level, not just length, of the straps can be adjusted!

Not a very good bag. Cool design and look, but there just isn't any room to store stuff. The secondary pocket on the front of the bag literally has NO room at all for anything more than a 1/2 inch thick, otherwise that object will protrude or create a bulge on the opposite side (interior) or the bag making it hard to pack stuff in the main compartment. The secondary compartment is an illusion in the picture they show. It does NOT extend outwards (not even a little) to allow for the thickness of an item. I'm returning this bag. PS. The main compartment which is the whole bad for storage space is only 4 inches wide.

Great backpack! I originally got the element but I decided it was too big for my needs. I generally just needed something simple with just enough space and to not make me look like a turtle. Has plenty of space for all the essentials, I would definitely buy again.

Great backpack. Holds everything I need and is really high quality. Even though I sometimes stuff it with books, the zippers still holds. The only problem I have is the zipper being too loud. I sometimes get stares while in the library.

I purchased this backpack in the Forden pattern for my son after viewing the video! Thanks Zappos for that feature. The backpack was delivered when promised and we checked it out thoroughly. Our favorite feature is in the main compartment sleeve for a laptop or folder. I'm sure this backpack will keep the contents dry in the rain.
I'd also recommend: North Face
