Oh, now this is a nice back pack. It hugs the back, has nice zippers, and the ladies love it. I haven't been late to class since I got it.

Really like the design and pattern of this backpack. However, it is not large enough to fit a laptop and books. You would have to go with one or the other. I am returning and ordering the Dakine LG instead!

I just got the backpack - fits my 15.4" MacBook Pro - although because the top of the backpack is a bit rounded, you need to pull the flap back a little to get the laptop out. I love the big and deep pockets, and the compartments are roomy enough to fit lots of things and use it as a carry-on. I chose this backpack specifically for its herringbone pattern which doesn't make the backpack too masculine or too sporty for any female user. The only thing is the straps are a bit wide and it also took me a while to adjust the lengths to make the backpack sits right and feels comfortable on me - and I am 5'6" and athletic built - so, this is definitely not specifically designed for women - but, I think for the price and practicality, it's very good. Unless the backpack totally makes my back hurts after my trip, I will plan on keeping it.

About Dakine
DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it´s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.
Throughout the 1990s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.
A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

First off, as always... major props to Zappos! Ordered the backpack on Monday morning and it was here the next day; they are the best.... hands down. Nobody beats their customer service. I love the backpack. I bought this to replace an old Rip Curl backpack that was just too bulky; I always felt it was going to knock something over if I wore it inside a store or flea market. The new Dakine is awesome - very slim fitting, and feels so much better on my back. I don't get the soreness in my lower back like I did with the Rip Curl. Very happy with this new Dakine. Again, Zappos never fails to "wow" us with their amazing service. Way to go Zappos; keep up the great work.

Forgot to mention in my below review. I was able to easily fit my 17 inch MacBook Pro in the backpack without any problems. So if a student is looking for a slim backpack that holds a large laptop and the Element is a great choice.

This bag is quite durable, after using it almost everyday for almost eight months, it still looks quite new. The only complaint is that 15" laptop is not a good fit. It can go in there, but a bit too tight. That is why I deducted one star.
