To protect my recently reconstructed ACL - I can feel the extra support, although they are quite snug in the groin area. Though that is a little uncomfortable, I think the stabilizing of the knee area is worthwhile.

Zappos and the tights - I bought these tights for my BF who weight wise was a medium-- he is a very fit runner and was certain due to weight he would be a medium. Well, to make a long story short--if you are a guy buying these... make sure you make adjustments for the fact that these tights are indeed going to clinch things up. If you don't want to sing soprano-- you might want to consider an up size if your height puts you in the next size up! Zappos was fabulous in sending us the next size up-- faster than we were able to get them sent back! Now Mark says his training runs are warmer, no air coming through-- he hill trains in all conditions running 5 to 7 miles daily in snow, rain, and arctic temperatures! He loves them.

Ski under gear - At this point it seems to be very high quality and outstanding for winter under gear. It is also very supporting of the muscle structure.

CW-X Insulator Stabilx tights - These tights are amazing! Not only do they keep you warm, but they offer maximum support. I wore them for a January road race where the windchill in NH that morning was -10 F and they keep the wind and cold from doing me in. I have used them on snowshoe runs in bitter cold and find they work great every time out. I only wish I had more of the same.

I purchased 4 pairs of the CW-X tights, Stabilyx and Pro Tights, and the Insulator version of both. Also bought the tri-top and love it. All from Zappos because of the overnight shipping and generous return policy. I have run several 5K and 10K runs in them as well as train in them every day. The quality is superior to every other brand I looked at or owned. They beat Underarmour, Opedix, 2Xu in the quality of the material hands down. As to helping with muscle fatigue, it works fabulously for me. Night and day difference with my running shorts. I don't wear my shorts anymore. I do plan on purchasing the CW-X tri-short and core short when spring rolls around. I am a believer in them now. I wash them after every use in a front loader and air dry as recommended. One thing you must do before first wash is trim the waist drawstrings and burn off the edge or they will fray terribly. Buy them and you will be happy or try others and I know it is wasted money. I have a closet of the other stuff.

Went snowboarding with these things and LOVED THEM!!!!! They tend to go off center (at the knees) every few hours, so during breaks, you need to realign them. Recommend them thoroughly.

These are great cold weather tights. For me these are good when the temps are below 40 degrees. I'm 6'0 / 200lbs and the large fit well. Lots of calf and knee support. Above 40 I use the Revolution tight.

I had a thinner pair of these tights that I liked very much but was looking for something warmer for skiing. I like the new Insulator tights even more because they are heavier, providing even better support and they are warmer without being hot. When I received them I thought I bought the wrong size. They looked small but stretched to a perfect fit. I would definitely recommend the product as well as Zappos for the place to buy them.

I have two pairs of CW-X tights. Both pairs will not stay snug on my waist during runs and xc skiing. They end up riding low and I have had chafing problems due to this. It could be my small backside since CW-X typically gets great reviews. For the price, I would expect more from CW-X. I bought a pair of Salomon windstopper tights which fit perfectly. I will not buy a pair of CW-X again.
Brands I'd also recommend: Salomon
