I discovered Columbia OmniHeat in a sporting goods store today. I tried on a jacket and immediately started to sweat - this stuff works! I already have a coat so I purchased the base layers instead for my winter sports. I purchased both the pants and the long sleeved shirt base layers. I would suggest going up one size - I find these to run small. (I usually wear a SM in all shirts and needed to go to M - same with pants. For reference I am 5'6 and 130lbs.)
Brands I'd also recommend: NILS, MERRELL, PATAGONIA

If you don't already have these, then get them! Lightweight, warm, affordable! Excellent base layer - have worn as leggings in a pinch. Zappos price is a few bucks lower than Columbia stores sans tax = happy hour money. I also have Columbia vest with omni heat and it really is warm.
Brands I'd also recommend: patagonia, arcteryx, marmot
