My first outing required firm footing, traction and water resistance. I was not disappointed with this Columbia product. Though these were not the Vibram soles that I am used to - they handled rocky terrain and stream crossings like a champ. My feet never felt cold even when wet. Without a shank I thought my feet would fatigue with the scrambling and prolonged walking on rocks. I enjoyed my river walk and did not think twice about walking further. They were comfortable right out of the box and promise to be great light-weight hiking shoes for my Southern California urban adventures.
