These pants have served me well. I'm an ornithologist and I bought these as casual field pants. They are great because they have plenty of pockets, they are lightweight for warmer days, and they are loose fitting enough to wear long johns underneath on cold days. They are a tad long on me, but that's fine when I'm wearing heavier duty hiking boots.
Brands I'd also recommend: The North Face, Merrell, Mountain Hardware
