I first started wearing these shoes after ankle surgery. I needed something like an athletic shoe, but with a heel. (My old Nike cross-trainers were just too low.) After trying on many styles I found these. They have it all: athletic shoe feel, a heel, and look good enough for work. My last order was my third.

I'm a difficult fit (12 4E) and most times I wear New Balance. These Clarks are rugged, good looking and above all, good fitting. I recommend them for anyone who likes comfortable walkers.

My wife recently purchased these clarks portland shoes for me for work. I often have a hard time finding shoes in a 14 w. Amazing enough the clarks portland was too big in a 14. So I returned them for a 13 m. Zappos.com has beyond excellent customer service. Kuddos to your organization for being the best at what you do.

These shoes fit as well as any I've had, both in size and width. I'm so glad Clarks are now available in wide sizes, since others in my family have enjoyed them. The delivery from Zappo's was supernaturally fast. They replaced a much more expensive shoe from Hush Puppies and are every bit as good, as far as I can tell now.

Good shoe, even better service from Zappos! The original order was for 8 1/2 W. All my previous Clarks shoes (4) were that size. This one felt like it was a narrow size. Now the good part. Called Customer Service yesterday very late afternoon to get the wider version. Amazingly they were waiting for me when I got home today! And they fit well, maybe a touch on the wide side. I will definitely order from Zappos again.

These may be the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Supremely comfortable from Day 1, and even better by Day 2. Great travel shoes, walking shoes, dress-down-Friday shoes at the office. I have really high arches, but these shoes give great support. One caution, though. They run at least half a size large. Most shoes are a perfect fit on me at Size 10. These are on the roomy side at 9.5.

Terrific shoes. Stylish without being overdone, understated without being dowdy, and very comfortable. And terrific service from Zappos.

I have a very difficult time finding shoes to fit due to narrow foot (10.5 AA heel and B width). These shoes seem a little wide to me, but not nearly as wide as those I have tried at conventional shoe stores. I also use orthotics. These shoes provide me with a comfortable fit. This is the second pair I have purchased. The first pair I wore nearly every day for a year and they are still quite serviceable. This time I bought 2 pairs the Clarks Portland and Rockport Encounter. Rockport ran about 1/2 size small and I had to exchange for an 11 narrow.

I've seen several reviews panning this shoe because it's made overseas and has a spandex collar and cloth lining instead of the English made Clarks that had leather inside and out. Folks, that is not because it's made overseas. The Portland was designed in England to have the very materials it has, and no changes to the original design have been made. If you were looking for Clarks with leather linings, there is a dizzying array of leather-lined Clarks shoes. The Portland is a special shoe made for city tourists who will do a lot of walking. If you will be spending a few thousand on an overseas vacation this year then this would be a good shoe for you if you will be taking subways, buses and taxis, with a lot of walking thrown in. The idea behind the Portland was to make a shoe that could "out-New Balance" New Balance--without looking like an athletic shoe on the outside. This is why the leather is lighter weight and the liner is reminiscent of an athletic shoe. The hidden midsole is EVA, just like thousands of running shoes. Good cushioning, light weight. You will be far less fatigued after a day touring Rome, New York or Washington in these shoes than in other shoes that look similar to them. You could wear a pair of running shoes and get similar comfort. Of course, nothing screams "American tourist" like a pair of white running shoes with casual slacks and shirt. The pickpockets love those running shoes. New Balance makes a line called Dunham that has similar virtues. For my money I'll take Clarks over Dunham, no matter where they're made. I own several pairs of Clarks (with full leather linings). I find them to be very comfortable as well. Any of them would be good for touring Europe. The Portland is special because it's Clarks purpose-built, 'hot rod' tourist shoe. It blends reasonably well by looking bland, it's made to be quite tough while retaining light weight relative to its toughness, it's highly water resistant and very shock absorbent. Rest assured you're getting a high-performance shoe here, if what I've told you meets your need. If you want legendary Clarks longevity associated with a full leather lining, try the Clarks Escalade on for size. It's a slip on with better styling than the Portland and still very comfortable, good enough to tour. Spend a bit more and get the Clarks Air Movers. Now there's a shoe that will give you longevity and comfort. I'm pretty easy on my shoes--this Portland will probably give me every bit as much service as my last pair.
Other Brands Recommended by Reviewer: You could try New Balance's Dunham brand. Rockports? Less value. Try Lassen.

The Best Shoe, Period! I bought the brown leather and they look so rich on jeans or even dark khaki shorts. They are extremely comfortable and not too heavy. The leather is top notch quality and the construction is pretty sturdy as well.

Happy husband - The shoes must be what they claim to be because I ordered them for my husband, he wears them & I've heard no complaints. Zappos service was excellent as always.

I have a black pair, and a brown pair. Now my daily clothing choice centers around by shoes, not the other way around. Haven't worn anything else other than tennis shoes since I got these. If your feet are sore and tired at the end of a day standing up, do yourself a favor and get these shoes.

Narrow size - not so narrow - Well made and handsome shoe for everyday wear. I have a narrow foot; I am always looking for good fit in casual shoe. I had to add insole to get a more comfortable fit. The last used has too broad a heel, requiring me to insert heel cups. (I expected to add insoles since it is almost impossible to find casual shoe in A width).

GREAT SHOE! I am hoping the fit will ease up, but I bought a pair of these (in brown) a year or so ago. This pair doesn't seem to fit as perfectly. They seem a hair narrower.

Great shoe for the money! I found the Clark's Portland to be a really good shoe for the money. I am on my feet 11+ hours a day in a sales environment and am EXTREMELY picky about my work shoes! These Portlands are well-padded, lightweight, offer excellent arch support and have good traction. They also look very nice, without looking too formal. However, like most reviewers have said, they do tend to run a half size too big. But, as always, Zappos was there to take them back and I ordered a half size smaller than I usually take and they fit perfectly! You can spend almost twice as much money on Eccos but you will NOT find a better shoe!

Second Pair - Best Shoes Ever - I have worn my first pair nearly daily for 3 years and they are still in serviceable shape but are a little worn looking, so I bought another pair. These are awesome shoes for long duration walking or standing as I wore them at trade shows and other places where I was on my feet all day. If I could give 6 stars I would!

Excellent shoe! I have very narrow, flat feet. Have been looking for I don't know how long for a shoe to wear casually, but not tennis shoe casual. This is it. Instant comfort-no break-in required at all...

The shoes are just as advertised. They are very comfortable. The only minor complaint is that they are a little wider than I expected for a narrow shoe size.
