These are great boots. The leather is supple and supportive. The Vibram soles are magnificent. The overall construction is excellent and tidy. They took about 3 days to break in but were comfortable from day one. Some people swear Red Wings are the best but I'm a Chippewa guy. Waterproof membrane is good. The heel is stable. Get 'em.

These boots are great I have worn them for about a week now, the soles are great for the muddy conditions the heel digs into the mud adding traction. The Kiltie is serving its purpose keeping alot of mud from getting under the bottom half of the laces and water proof to keep the nasty crap on the the outside. Then when I get done doing my job I just give them a few kicks to the curb to get most of the mud out of the soles, and with the steel toes I do not have to worry about hurting my toe when kicking out the mud, then I just set them aside and let the rest of the mud dry and they are ready for the next day's beating. The toes have really taking a beating but that only adds to the boots rugged look. I did not buy these boots to take care of but instead to have fun with. These are great boots!

The boots are great. They are real tough and the steel toe is like a tool being attached to me. The waterproofing is also very effective, but I went canoeing with them and fell in the river (rapids) and soaked the boots. The only problem was that they are so waterproof it was hard to get them to dry in the sun! The only gripe so far is that the laces are horrible and I need new ones already.

About Chippewa
Initially, Chippewa started with only logger boots in its product line. Constructed of double and triple leather midsoles and hand-plugged outsole spikes, the logger boots were designed to assist loggers as they rolled the logs down the rivers to the mills. Based on that state-of-the-art boot, Chippewa gained a reputation for quality and began expanding the product line to include more boot categories.
The past century has brought significant changes in the need for quality outdoor work and sport footwear. Chippewa Boots continues to add new products to its inventory to meet the needs of its loyal following. As part of the Justin Brands, Inc. family, quality and craftsmanship continue to be the leading guides in its development, just as it has been for the last 100 years. Rugged as the land they walk, Chippewa. Live the Spirit.

I bought from Zappos, the boot is amazing. GET the steel toe, not only will your legs get stronger but you will be a boss with being able to kick stuff. Okay, so the laces died after 3 months, but I called Zappos and they didn't have any laces to give me, but they gave me a 1-800 number to call and those people had laces sent to me all within 10 minutes. Zappos referred me (which they didn't have to do) and they should be commended for their excellent service (which is why I am writing this). Thanks Zappos!
Brands I'd also recommend: New Balance, Chippewa

Aside from being a heavy boot, I cannot find anything wrong with these boots. They are bomb proof and water proof. The overall fit and finish is that of a boot twice the price. they are true to size and width. Once you get used to the weight they are all day comfortable. Also even as a waterproof boot they are plenty breathable and my feet stay dry and warm. Would definitely recommend them to someone who needs a serious boot for serious work.

I've a single pair of these on my feet at least a couple times a week for the last 3 years. My career in oil & gas has taken these boots on a journey from 14kft @ -30deg in the rockies to the heat of the Texas desert. I've beat the heck out of them and just keep taking it. While it took a bit of a transition, I now can't do without the slightly higher heel in these. It balances your weight better and I've never had any trouble working on my feet all day all night long. Took 3 years to wear to the point where I need new ones and not changing a thing on my next pair.

Like others I found the only fault to be the laces cheap quality and I will be replacing them soon. I bought these for outdoor work mostly in the winter, firewood cutting and splitting. I chose a steel toe boot for those large chunks falling off the splitter after nearly losing a toe. The quality is first rate. I have a brother and sister in law who are both in the construction business and whom have owned many steel toe work boots, they were both very impressed with the construction. I even felt the initial comfort was above expected. There's no better value out there for the price.

I don't normally write reviews, unless I am completely satisfied or on the opposite end of the spectrum and pissed. These boots are heavy duty, keep my feet warm, never to hot and comfortable. I wasn't used to the high heel at first but have now gotten used to it and have learned to appreciate the grip and traction the soles provide. In the past I had worn my Dad's army boots, Red Wings, and Red Head snake boots from Bass Pro Shop, etc, but these are my new go to boots. They are heavy but it's worth it with ankle support, comfort, and protection. Oh yes, forgot to say package arrived about 3 days after order placed. Thanks Zappos.
