I LOVE these boots. Somehow they add a couple inches to my height, although the heel doesn’t appear to be that much higher than my other boots. They are high quality and stylish. I have not tested them for waterproof-ness. I was looking for a new, steel-toe (ST) workboot. These are NOT. Chippewa makes a model which looks exactly the same, which is ST. I didn’t realize they were called by the same name whether they had ST or not. After I received them, I liked them so much, I decided I didn’t NEED the ST. I mainly work in the office of a machine shop, so it’s just an added precaution, not a necessity. The leather did appear a bit scuffed out of the box, but after I rubbed mink oil on them, the scuffs disappeared and haven’t reappeared. I always mink oil leather shoes when new, and annually after. There was a bit of pain against my ankle from the tongue area as others described, but I figured the leather would break in. It did. I’ve been wearing them almost every day since Christmas (about 15+ full days), and they don’t pinch anymore... I didn’t even notice when it stopped, so it must’ve been gradual.

I saw the 8" Chippewas over a year ago and knew I needed them. Of course there was no 6.5W at the time so I asked Zappos to keep me updated. Several times I got email regarding a different boot but finally this Fall of 09 it was the boot, one pair availible in my small wide size. Now the snow is here and every day I lace up my Chippewas and head out to the woods with my dog. These boots will last me the rest of my life(they can be resoled). I know this because my Chippewa barn boots are 30 years old and still in use.

I have been eyeing these boots since last winter. I am not a fan of regular winter boots and thought these might be a compromise, if they could keep my feet warm and dry. I did some research on Chippewa, and there are several models of these boots. I had hoped these would be the model that's waterproof and Thinsulate insulated given the price, so I took a chance and ordered in my usual size 8. When I got them this one is L26378, which is the waterproof soft toe version. I loved the way they looked. They felt a little loose on my foot, but I don't think I would size down. I would just consider wearing heavier socks. I got used to the roomy feeling as I tested them out. They were definitely not too long on the foot so not really a size too big or anything, just roomy. After wearing them a few minutes, I thought these might be a little heavy for regular wear, but I assume since they are made to be work boots, lots of women wear them all day, day after day; just need to break them in, maybe? I so much wanted to love and keep these, despite not being insulated, and I would have for looks alone, but for some reason the left boot hit my ankle bone in a strange way, right where the tongue meets the boot. Maybe it was just a bad match for my foot shape, or the very thick tongue. The right one fit fine, however. I didn't think I could tolerate the pressure on my left ankle for the long Vermont winter season, and for this price they need to be right. So back they went. Worth a try with Zappos great return policy!

The only problem with these boots is that the tongue is a little thick which causes them to rub on your ankles. Other than that, there is enough room for an extra pair of socks and, so far, they have held up well.

Additional Brand Information

Since 1901, Chippewa has been creating footwear based on simple, fundamental rules. Most importantly, they use only the best materials, the best construction techniques and the most innovative technology. The result -- unquestionably the best boots around. That's what we mean when we say Chippewa Integrity.

Initially, Chippewa started with only logger boots in its product line. Constructed of double and triple leather midsoles and hand-plugged outsole spikes, the logger boots were designed to assist loggers as they rolled the logs down the rivers to the mills. Based on that state-of-the-art boot, Chippewa gained a reputation for quality and began expanding the product line to include more boot categories.

The past century has brought significant changes in the need for quality outdoor work and sport footwear. Chippewa Boots continues to add new products to its inventory to meet the needs of its loyal following. As part of the Justin Brands, Inc. family, quality and craftsmanship continue to be the leading guides in its development, just as it has been for the last 100 years. Rugged as the land they walk, Chippewa. Live the Spirit.
