Wide width just right - I often have a hard time finding sandals that fit since I have a wide foot. The straps are usually too short. The Chaco Z/1 Unaweep is a great exception. The wide width has straps that are long enough for even my wide foot. The arch support is higher than expected. It feels like you are standing and walking on a hump in the middle of the shoe. At first, I found that uncomfortable, but as I wear the sandals more, I'm finding that I like it. As always, Zappos is THE place to shop for shoes!
Brands I'd also recommend: Tevas, but only if you have a narrow foot

Chaco Z1/1 Unaweep - Nice blue color. He likes the durability, able to wear in water. Just a little too chunky/heavy sole. Will be used more for beach/water, not as much for hiking. Sole looks like hiking boot.

Winner - I got these since they are the only sandals I could find in wide size. I am very picky & end up sending back 3 out of every 4 shoes I order, but these are keepers. It took 2 days to get used to the strap system (you can't wear the toe strap loose...it tightens on its own when you walk). Now I wear them whenever possible. Go Chaco. I had a pair of cheap Nike sandals & didn't know what I was missing.

Happy Father's Day present - Bought these for my husband for Father's Day. He loves them! Extremely comfortable. Takes a little getting use to the arch - - usually these types of shoes have no arch or support that what makes these great. Having the option of selecting a wide width was extremely important. My husband is usually an 11 1/2, ordered an 11 and they just fit, 12 would have been huge.

Nice, hard sandal - While this sandal is well made, it feels hard on the feet and is heavy. Wish it had more cushion - then it would be the perfect sandal. Buy it in the wide; gives more room throughout.

Loved the shoe. Size was perfect. Received many compliments on the look. Purchased them to go on a desert/water holiday and think they will work out fine. (My only other shoes are Birkies).

Won't Come Off... I sail, hike, kayak and fish in these shoes. I'm wearing my third pair over about seven or eight years, but not because they wore out--my first pair had purple straps my wife hated, my second (black-strapped pair) were lifted from the beach where I left them under a friend's boat. The purple ones are still in use on my son's feet, and I presume the black ones are doing good service for someone, somewhere. Besides my regular, daily casual use, I have worn my Z1s wading in the Atlantic surf, walking though Chesapeake Bay mud, running through the woods with the dogs, in my kayak, and dinghy sailing. Adjust the straps properly, and they fit over socks and still won't come off until you want them to. Not even too bad for winter with thick wool socks if the snow is dry--good traction from the light lug soles. My kids laugh at the "Z" tan lines on my feet. I laugh at people in flip-flops. Great shoes.

Awesome!!! These are awesome shoes. I had a sports injury to my toe and they were the most supportive shoes for my feet. I have some other Chacos and knew that they run large. Anyway, these are truly great and a must have for any active person.

Beware of sand and wet rocks! I previously reviewed these sandals and gave them high marks all around. I am now lowering my marks for their overall performance. I wore these sandals on a whitewater rafting trip this summer. They performed quite well except that the soles felt extremely slippery when standing on wet rocks. In fact, I slipped and fell one time, hurting my arm. Also, sand has a very negative impact on these sandals. It works its way into the channels where the straps run through the sole and causes the straps to "lock" in place. I've worked and worked with my straps since I got home but still do not have much adjustment room. There seems to be no way to get the sand out of the channels. I think the straps are permanently stuck. All that said the Chaco’s are very comfortable to wear on the river and on the street.

Good sturdy sandal. I have tried the new Teva sandals, but don't really like them (my last Tevas lasted almost 10 years). I recommend Chaco’s, but if you wear a half size and want a close fitting summer sandal, order a size down. I wear a Nike 12 (I am probably between an 11 1/2 and a 12), and the Chaco 11 is perfect for a nice fit.

Greatest sandal ever? Yes! These are the greatest sandals ever. I had gone through several pairs of Tevas (solid, but ultimately disappointing), and a pair of Merrell's (super durable w/ great soles that gave me constant blisters). After avoiding the Chaco’s for years because I was intimidated by the strap system, I finally dove in. It only took me about two days to get the strap configuration down. I didn't wear anything else the rest of the summer. I got a pair for my wife and she didn't take them off either. We went backpacking through Central America, and though we brought hiking boots, we never used them. Chaco’s took us through towns, ruins, up mountains and volcano’s, and through rain forests. They blew away the Tevas (which I always bought as a second back-up pair). You won't need a back-up for these. Plus, they are far more comfortable. The ridged design on the footbed also seems to help sweat evaporate very quickly. I love this sandal! Oops, almost forgot. Great arch support.

Wide sizes - Love the shoe but why is it so hard to find in the wide version. Always have to settle for the boring colors due to width.

Best sandals in the world - Every month I traverse more than 20 cities and travel over 4,000 kilometers through four different countries. I have been wearing my Chaco sandals EVERY DAY for the past two years. It is just now time to buy a new pair and I'd say I got my moneys worth. The only downside is the fraying at the front strap if you don't clear the sand out, but I've only replaced the straps once. Really Chaco’s are the best sandals out there!!! Buy a pair you won't regret it.

Chaco Z/1 - EUREKA!!! After coming down with a bad case of Plantar Fasciitis I did a lot of researching and testing out(New Balance, Birkentock, Crocs, Mephisto and MBTs). Chaco Z/1 shoes are Z-best for my feet. They are very supportive, built to last, comfy, airy etc. A bit heavy on the scale but provide a smooth walk out of the box. They felt a half size larger and true to width. The wide version does seem more supportive. So, if you have a wide foot(2E or more) go with the wide ones, no doubt. The strap system is not as challenging as some claimed, taking only a few tries to master. Also instructions on that are found on the box.

Sweet - I really like um. Very comfy and look good also. The only problem I had is they hurt my feet quite a bit more than other pairs when I was breaking them in. Great for hiking rivers and other amphibious activities

Great Sandal - This is the third pair of Chaco's I’ve bought over the last 5 years, and it is my favorite. I usually buy the toe loop model, and wanted to try something new. These shoes are comfortable, provide great support, and are extremely durable. I wore out the first pair island hoping, and beach combing. Chaco's unparallel service keeps me returning pair after pair. I buy almost exclusively from Zappos. Keep up the good work.

For Those of Us with Wide and Sweaty Feet, Here Is Our Sandal - I am cursed with flat and wide feet that are perhaps a little sweatier than the average man’s. I have been searching high and low for a sandal that would accommodate me, and after reading some of the praises for the other Chaco sandals, I decided to pony up the $90 for the wide Z/1 Unaweep. I have not been disappointed. These sandals have turned out to be the best thing I have ever purchased for my feet. The straps are easily manipulated for a comfortable custom fit and when my feet do sweat, they don’t stink. Whatever magical anti-bacterial voodoo they have treated this sandal with really works. It took a couple of days to break them in properly, the first day being the only painful one. I will make sure my next pair of sandals are Chaco’s and that I buy them from Zappos.

Comfy - I bought these shoes for DH and DS (12). DH loves them. He wears them whenever he can and says they are the comfiest shoes he has worn (and he is a Keen guy). DS has a wide foot normally- so I ordered the wide version- in retrospect I should have ordered the regular width I think. These shoes are wide to begin with. The only issue would be the lack of a front adjustable strap- although I think that makes them more comfortable.
