I didn't like my old chaco's so much because they were pretty thick and killed my feet. These one's are awesome! I have done several hikes in the canyon and the soles are absolutely perfect and grippy for fly fishing or river hikes. The wide width made all the difference in the world.

After 15+ years rocking/loving the original style chaos (z1) I decided to upgrade to these Chaco Updraft Bulloos as the new footbed was lighter, grippier and better looking. Sadly after a few months wearing them hiking, etc around Boulder Colorado I can honestly say these are an utter product fail! For one simple reason...Chaco changed the heal attachment (strap to footbed) to a hard plastic post rather than fabric strapping. Even in the wides, these posts endlessly dig into your heels literally cutting holes in your feet on every hike. Even walking on perfectly flat sidewalks they rub to the point of discomfort but on trails they are an unusable nightmare. The posts also make it so you can no longer slip on the sandals half way (for a quick walk to the mailbox or camp fire) as the post doesn't flop down like the old style. So unless you like bloody feet, I emphatically recommend not buying this style until Chaco ditches the plastic.

These are very good-looking shoes. When you want more stability than flip-flops, but less bulkiness than trekking sandals, these could be a good option. The front strap slides under the sole, so you can adjust the width.

The outside strap support post is hard plastic. The top of this post dug into the bottom of my ankle bone on any sort of uneven ground or outward ankle movement. I developed blisters within an hour and a painful ankle bone. The R&D team should have caught this. The sandals do not fold up easily as a result of these inside/outside plastic supports. The only decent comment I have is they are light. You have to be careful about the toe flipping back. They were slippery on wet floors too. Wear them with caution. I bought these for two weeks in the Virgin Islands. I ended up buying flip-flops and wearing tennis shoes.
