Not so comfy. I tried these shoes in two sizes in both the Student and Pro and neither worked. I ordered the narrows and they were still waaaay too wide. This shoe also runs very strangely. The 10 TOTALLY swam on my foot, and the 9 was too short and crunched my toes. I didn\'t even bother with trying the 9.5--too much hassle to keep ordering these shoes when they weren\'t comfy in the first place. The the footbed is very hard and slippery, and the styling is very blah in person. No likey.

Ok for a starter shoe - These shoes work ok for light amounts of dancing. A 2-3 hour dance ball on a hard floor will leave your feet tired though. These shoes are made well, but the hard heel is what causes me problems after awhile. There is almost no cushion in the toe box. The arch support isn't very good but there is a little. I wear orthotics, but mine don't fit in dance shoes, so I have to be careful about what shoes I wear. My advice is that if you ar just starting out, these are fine to buy, but if you want to continue dancing, or to be able to stand or dance for an entire dance event, invest in a higher end shoe.

Very Nice! I have been wearing these shoes to my ballroom classes, and they are great. The shoes are very comfortable during the practices and lessons; I can practice for a longer period of time.

Looked cheap. No cushion in the toe box. The top of my toenails rubbed against the shoe, and it felt a quarter of a size too small.

My favorite heels - I was looking for a pair of heels that I could wear to go dancing for hours without ending up in pain. These shoes fit the bill and looked great at the same time.

Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father’s footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio’s popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes.

The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance.

I'm not a dancer, I wear these at the office. I keep a black pair at work and a tan pair at home. They have a classic look that will go with any outfit and never be out of style. The style makes your feet look smaller. The tan color makes your legs look longer. After a while, they mold to your feet. I've been buying these shoes for twenty years. Warning, don't wear outside. I wore them on a wet sidewalk and the shoe fell apart. Keep them inside. For non-dancers: consider putting a non skid sole on the bottom. I wore these to court one day and almost took a tumble on the highly polished stone floor. Great shoe.

Perfect wedding reception shoes! I purchased these shoes at the beginning of April for my May 31 wedding reception. They felt a bit small in the toes at first, but after 2-3 40-minute dance lessons they were nicely broken in. I did take them off a few hours into the reception, but that was after spending much time taking pictures, during dinner, and well past the first dance. The arch support was noticeably excellent. Once broken in, the width was good, and the size was within expectations -- I generally wear about half a size smaller in heels than flats, so the 5 was just right. I generally don't like wearing heels, but if I have to get another pair, I would definitely try these again.

So far, I am very happy with these shoes. I followed the recommendation to order a size up, but then I ended up having to return them for a half size smaller. I usually wear a size 9-9.5, and I do have a few pairs of 10s that fit, so I ordered a 10, which I had to return for a 9.5. By the way, customer service was excellent and the return was so easy! If you plan to wear this as an everyday shoe, one thing to factor into the price is getting a regular sole put on ($25-35/pair). They have a fully leather sole that will wear out very quickly, especially the heel. As far as the look, I know there are more fashionable shoes out there, but these are a classic look and they are very comfortable without looking frumpy. Overall, it’s a great shoe.

Student Footlight (White) These were very comfortable, but the white ones looked a bit cheap close up. This wouldn't be a problem on stage, but I was looking for party shoes. The leather (white, I didn't try black or tan) seemed like it would scuff instantly- there were even some marks right out of the box. So, If you're looking for regular wear shoes, not for the stage, stick with black. Zappos was the only place on the net that I could find the white ones, though, and the service is outstanding!

Good for waltzing - I used this shoe for a 3-hour Vienna waltz ball. My complaint with my previous dance shoe had been a lack of arch support, but this shoe really held up well. I felt secure in all my turns and the heel was a nice height and width. I broke the shoe in by wearing it before the event and I added a full-sole gel pad for extra comfort. If you have arthritis, the buckle may be a bit difficult to fasten. The strap is a few millimeters too close to the ankle for my taste, but you don't notice it when it is under a big dress.

Good shoes for dance or occasions - I needed a pair of black shoes to wear to stand in my mom's wedding. I looked around and just didn't see anything that was both fashionable and comfort-minded. I decided I just wanted something simple that would go with everything. I used to wear character shoes in school for choir and show choir concerts, but I outgrew my old character shoes. I usually wear a 9.5W or 10M. I saw that everyone said these needed to be sized up so I ordered a 10W and they fit just fine. They are not too tight and not too loose. When I first took them out of the box, I thought they looked so narrow, but my foot fit just fine. I ordered the leather ones on purpose so that they will stretch a little for comfort. I think I will be adding a gel insert to make them a little more comfortable. They are also quite slippery so I think I will take them outside and scratch the bottoms on concrete to make them a little less slippery like I used to do in high school. I'm not using them for dance, but they are practical and well made enough for special occasions or daily wear.

The shoe felt good and needed little breaking in. However, the heels do not seem as stable as I like them to feel. This is my first pair of the Student Footlights. I would probably purchase them again even though the stability is not quite what I like.

Just What The Director Ordered! My daughter's play director asked all the girls to wear "theater shoes". My 11 year old daughter was all too happy to comply...she loves wearing the heel. She loves them, and did not get blisters on the first wear. They fit well.

Purchased because they are great looking pair of shoes. All the other pumps were too pointy or the heels too tall. Very easy to walk in and work well, so far, with nearly all my wardrobe. The leather uppers could be a little thicker and softer; the bottom has no padding. A gel insert will fix that. Fine as is for walking on carpeted and wooden floors, for walking outside in the real world, an additional heel and forward sole is suggested.

Capezio's Student Footlight - I found the shoe very comfortable with a classic look that I like. I bought the shoe for street wear, not for dancing. The fit was true to size for me. I encourage anyone to consider these shoes for every day wear as well as for dancing.

Beautiful looking, but several fitting problems - I like the look of this shoe. The neutral color with a practical strap seemed to be a good all-around shoe, especially with the reasonable 2" tough plastic heel. BUT, I usually take a 8.5 C/W, which I ordered. In length, the shoe feels SMALLER, at least a half size, with my big toe bumping up to the edge. AND it gaps at the back, allowing my heel to raise up and rub along the back edge (not very comfortable). For fat feet, my heels tend to be narrow and occasionally I run across this gapping. Also, the ball of the foot was kind of hard, no obvious support here...very surprising for what is supposed to be a dancer's shoe. If not for the gapping I would have ordered the next half size up or maybe even a full size up and tried a gel insert. Sadly, shoes were sent back, and I'm looking for something similar in another brand.

Theater Shoe Review -- Boffo! This is my first pair of Capezio's and now I know why all my musical theater friends swear by them. They have got to be the most comfortable shoes on the planet. When you're trying to remember dance routines and lines; the last thing you want to be thinking about is your feet. These are great shoes that feel comfortable, supportive, and make anyone's hooves look good. Further, Zappos prices can't be beat. I've priced these same shoes in specialty shops at over $100. As far as I'm concerned, Zappos is the only place to buy Capezio shoes or any type of dance shoes period.

Requires "breaking in" This shoe worked well...once my daughter got past the initial heel blister on the first couple times dancing in it.
