Not bad to learn in, but the sound's a bit tinny... This tap is fun to practice in because it's easy to roll up and literally walk around on your toes. Past that, though, as the other commenter said, there are better Capezio shoes. My biggest issue with the shoe is that the tap itself sounds thin to me. I prefer the Capezio Dance Sneaker, which has the Teletone II tap. That tap has a stronger, fuller sound, and the sneaker allows you to toe-stand easily. The shoe also gives you a bit more support and there's awesome shock absorption. If you're a girl, you can't audition for traditional Broadway tap in these shoes (or the sneaks). You need a heel to elongate your leg--and you can't toe-stand in Capezio heels. Or, I guess I should say *I* can't toe-stand in them. I've opted to move to Miller & Ben--which has an oxford tap with a 2" heel.

Not the best tap shoe out there... Well, I have to say first that I am a very very good tap dancer, and this shoe is great for anyone who is dancing for fun and at a beginning level. However, I don't think long time tappers should choose this particular shoe. Capezio has made far better tap shoes than this one.

Sounds good, but isn't that great... I'm a professional tap dancer and have been for years. I've always been a supporter of Capezio and, because I always like to know what kinds of tap shoes are out there, I always try the latest product. A few years ago, I purchased these, the MCG03's. Although the sound was better than average and the shoe fit rather comfortably, I noticed that the shoe gave almost no support whatsoever. For toe stands, they are ideal; for any other step, however, I highly encourage against them. My recommendation for any student looking for shoes is the Capezio MCG09's (the ones with the Teletone II taps). It gives better support and has an adequate sound quality for an amateur dancer. For a professional dancer (who probably is not looking at this shoe anyway), I would recommend the Capezio K360, which should later be customized with a build-up of anywhere between 1/8" and 3/8". They require a bit more money, a trip to the shoemaker, and a comparatively long time to break in, but they are well worth it.

Additional Brand Information

Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father’s footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio’s popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes.

The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance.

Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker® and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.
