I received a two slice Breville toaster about 9 mos ago as a gift and it worked well for the first few mos. but now it's coils in several places did not glow consistently so the toast is often very light on one side and the other browned well. I've tried blowing on the faint coils and that did help some but not always. Any other suggestions?

We purchased the toaster because of the excellent performance of our Breville Smart Oven. The Die-Cast 4-Slice Smart Toaster does not achieve the same level of satisfaction. The toaster only toasts on one side of your bagel, toast, or English muffin. That is not widely published and may disappoint many buyers. It takes some getting use to. The toaster should be set at level four to begin and you'll be close to your desired browning level. Frankly there are many less costly toasters that will toast the bread, simply without the bells and whistles.

This toaster is simply amazing. I have come to conclude that when you buy Breville, you buy quality and I'm happy to spend the extra money to get it! The other feature this toaster has that other reviewers have not touched upon yet is the defrost button. This is especially nice for people who keep bagels, breads, etc. in the freezer and want to only take out a slice or two at a time. (Especially nice for singles or couples) This toaster does a remarkable job when you put a slice of frozen bakery bread or a frozen bagel in the slot and press defrost and then toast. It delivers you a perfect and I mean perfect slice of toasted bread. I've been buying wonderful bakery breads and slicing into thick slices when I get home from store and freezing it just because this great toaster makes it possible for me to buy the loaf without wasting most of it from going stale in a day. The toasted slices come out perfectly crisp on the outside and deliciously chewy, hot and flavorful on the inside. I would highly recommend this toaster and would buy again in a heartbeat!

The toaster was defective upon arrival. Two side of the heating coils did not work at all. The other two sides of the heating coils were randomly heating. Breville's own customer service department advised me after describing issue that the toaster was defective. I would not purchase this toaster again. Zappos was great though from delivery to return of item.

This is the best toaster I have ever owned. It toasts quickly and has many levels of darkness to choose from. Not only is it cool to the touch and efficient, but it is very attractive as well.

I bought this toaster about 5 months ago for my wife (don't judge me, she asked for a toaster). It looks fantastic, and the toast comes out...toasted. A week ago though the lights on the left side of the toaster started randomly blinking, and that side is no longer functional. I have emailed Breville costumer support, and await their reply. I am currently giving it two stars because when I buy an expensive kitchen appliance I expect it to work for years without having to ever use the warranty.

This is a great toaster. I had one for myself and purchased one as a gift for my son's family. They love it too. It works smoothly, the lift and look feature is great as is the just a little more feature and the toast is perfect every time. It looks great too. Well, worth the price to have a toaster that is reliable and attractive.

This is the best toaster I have ever owned. I was so sick of toasters and toaster ovens that toast unevenly, and this toaster cooks evenly every time! The kids love the defrost button for frozen waffles. Well worth the money!

I have never in my life been emotional about a small appliance, but I love this toaster. We've only had it a few weeks but it toasts well, the buttons to take a look and add a little more time are genius, and it looks good/expensive on the countertop. Suffice it to say I'm now someone who talks about her toaster at cocktail parties. If it turns out to be durable as well (can't tell yet) the people at Breville deserve a medal for toaster innovation.

Have been married for 48 years and gone though a lot of toasters. Thought a toaster was a toaster -- didn't think the Breville would be worth the high price, but I was wrong. It is the best toaster we've ever had. Heats evenly, looks good (the finish doesn't show fingerprints) and we absolutely love it.

I read other reviews before purchasing this toaster as I am so tired of buying bad ones. We love this toaster! Bread toasts evenly as does frozen items. Love the sophisticated 'push-of-a-button' technology. I highly recommend this toaster.

After years of looking for a toaster that cooked the toast evenly. I have found one. It does not seem to be built any better than others and it has a lot of bells and whistles that are not needed. I would rather have it built better with heavier gage steel and parts. Very expensive compared to a toaster that a friend got as a bank giveaway that toasts just as well. All in all it toasts the way I want.

This is an excellent toaster, and it looks very attractive on the counter top. It functions perfectly, and has some nice features like the "bit more" button. Degree of toasting can be set with fine granularity. Overall we have had excellent luck with Breville small kitchen appliances; this is our third one.
