Our needs for a coffee grinder are quite simple -- we only use it for perked coffee (yes -- we use an old-fashioned Faberware percolator -- like it much better than drip). The Breville grinder works great -- is quiet and fairly clean and grinds enough for 12 cups in 30 seconds.

I have wanted a burr grinder for some time now, as I use a French press to make my coffee and a uniform grind is important to consistent flavor, an easy press and to minimize sludge that gets past the filter. The Breville does a great job, and my coffee is much improved. Unexpected benefits include 1. It is much quieter than my old spin blade grinder 2. The timer allows me to grind the same amount of beans each time. So I no longer need to measure out spoonfuls of beans and I can empty my entire bag into the grinder My only complaint is the odd shape of the receptacle at the bottom. It is hard to get the grounds to empty into the press cleanly and I end up with grounds on my counter. This was a Christmas gift from my wife, so I have not compared other grinders, but am very happy with the Breville.

If you make espresso, you need a consistent grind! We bought this grinder to replace an older worn out unit that we had for years. This grinder does a fantastic job at making a consistent grind every time. There are probably better grinders available, but not likely at this price. The only drawback I can give is the small size of the hopper and grounds receptacle. This is only an issue when we are entertaining, and have to make large amounts of coffee. My wife and I are very pleased with this purchase.

I bought this based on the reviews; I have not tried other models and cannot compare it to other burr grinders. For me, this is great. It holds about 1/2 pound of beans, and after the settings are adjusted to the desired grind and amount, one button push produces the same amount and the same grind each time. I doubted the claims that the burr grinder makes a taste difference from the hand held mills, but it is true in my experience. The coffee is less bitter, smoother and richer. The whirling blade appears to heat and oxidize the coffee, and it really is true that the burr grinder produces a better cup, in my experience. I was pleased with this purchase, but this is written after only one week, and I don't know about its durability yet. Good luck.
