Garmont Reviews
I wanted something with a longer lasting sole than my Brooks Adrenalines for trailrunning, these Garmonts would be the perfect shoe if there were arch support and built for the over pronator, which they are not, so I am returning them. I also found that after wearing them only an hour that my feet were pretty warm (it was 67 degrees, in Jan) so I don't think these would work for spring hikes in Phoenix or up North in Sedona.

Really comfortable out of the box, the vibram soles are really sticky and have great grip. I have flat feet so to much arch support really kills my feet, but these shoes are just perfect, not to much arch support and not too little. great boots for serious day hikers.
I had the same problem with the comfort. Everything is perfect about these shoes but there was something in the closure that just killed after a period of time.
Ugh, I was hoping these would be nice and comfortable like my old Tevas of similar outer appearance. Sadly, these shoes hurt so badly that I can't even wear them. I see them in my closet and my feet hurt. Actually my 3 smaller outside toes and balls of feet are what ache the most. I tried different insoles and wore them to try and break them in a number of times but even wearing then short distances is painful. It feels like there is no cushion at all between the hard rubber bottom and the inside of the shoe. The only plus is the cute flower pattern on the soles. Oh, and I like the color but they are more bulky than I usually go for (and I wear clunky shoes). Maybe they are okay if you are more stationary but I walk around all day for my job.
A great, lightweight, hiking boot. Waterproof uppers and stitching, nice protective soles. Worn with light/mid-weight wool socks, your feet will stay comfortable and dry. I wear Asolo TPS 535 for my backpacking trips, but maybe these might be used for short day trips. Garmont did a nice job with these lightweight hiking boots!
First of all, Zappos is terrific! Fast service and when you need it, returns. I don't know why anyone would go out to shop for shoes when Zappos is available. These hiking boots were exactly what I wanted. Break in time very short and comfortable almost immediately. It will take some time to see how they wear, and hold up to adverse conditions, rain, mud, water, etc., but out of the box they fit and are comfortable, and good looking. I recommend them highly.
These are very comfortable and good looking shoes. I love wearing them. The only thing that could use improvement is some ventilation, because they do not breath well and my feet get hot.
I have been hiking for over thirty years and find these to be by far the best boots I have ever worm. Broke them in on six days of hiking in the Smoky Mountains with nary a discomfort. I am most impressed with the support with scant compromise to weight and flexibility. And oh yeah - My feet remained dry after several stream crossings.
Excellent mid-weight hiker; these are comfortable, lightweight, fun to wear. Their construction is first rate with beautifully lugged and micro-etched outsole-- these babies are also stitched and double-stitched to fare-thee-well. Body armor for your feet without all the weight. The outsole seems especially hard-wearing for a hiking boot, with very little wear after six months including a lot of hard pavement. The downside of this, of course, is the grip on slippery surfaces might be compromised somewhat, but this is not a serious trade-off for me in Colorado's dry climate. The boot has been waterproof in my experience, though, and careful inspection shows my pair has a full Gore-Tex lining as expected. The insoles are fairly cushy, however, and hauling a heavy pack may require an upgrade to a Superfeet green insole. Overall, I'm very fond of these and find myself going to them quite a bit even when something lighter or heavier-duty would be thought more appropriate.
I have been wearing these boots for about 3 months now, in an extreme hot, dry, arid location. My first impression was that they where cumbersome. Now after wearing them daily, and being on my feet on dirt and gravel for 8+ hours I have grown to appreciate the sturdiness and support.
These are solid shoes. They are very comfortable and the right weight. I have used these on multiple hikes this summer and they have performed really well. They are easy to get into/out of. No sweating/hot spots with these boots. I have not had a chance to test the waterproofing. But I think they will do well. I love these boots!
I purchased these boots for a trek on the AT across the 100 mile Wilderness in ME which ended with a climb up Mt. Katahdin because Backpacker Magazine really hyped this boot as being darn near perfect. They fit well and really support your feet and ankles but the tread is useless when wet and is actually slick when trying to negotiate wet rocks which the AT in Maine has a lot of. Also, even with the Gore-Tex lining, if you get water over the top of the toe box or laces you wind up with wet feet because the gusset is not Gore-Tex lined. So, hiking in the rain I had wet feet. At this price a Gore-Tex gusset and tongue should have been included. These boots are water resistant at best, not waterproof. All in all, great fit but very mediocre performance as a so-called GTX hiker. I will not buy another product from Garmont.
Feel great. Fit as expected. They needed no break in and were ready to hike on rough terrain. Love them.
The craftsmanship of these shoes is why I have chosen Garmont year after year. I have had their boots and their standard hiking shoes - adding these approach shoes to the mix will ensure I have quality shoes on me feet at all times. Buyer beware: You need to order 1 size up due to width (because of the lace-to-toe design).
Love this shoe! I needed something for a trip to Arizona that would involve light hiking and these were perfect. I, rather stupidly, did not order them in time to break them in and so had to wear them right out of the box for the first hike of the trip. Thankfully, there was no pain or blistering. They were also relatively light on my feet and in the suitcase!
These are great hiking boots. I went for a camping last weekend, walked three miles uphill in the mountains. At least twice there was a moment when I realized that if not for these boots I would have damaged my foot. They have great support for the foot and correct your mistakes when you put your foot to the ground wrong.
Seems like a sturdy and well made shoe. They claim the toebox has been modified to provide more room for the big toe. This may be true but there seemed to be too little room for the small toe. One shoe felt cramped and the other rubbed my small toe as i walked around the house. Otherwise I'd probably had kept them and loved them.
Excellent comfort and available in hard to find size 12.5, seems that most retailers and shoe makers do not accommodate half sizes beyond 11.5 Although limited selection I found these and they were a match made in heaven. Right size, right color, Gore-Tex materials, Vibram soles, and amazing fit / comfort. They fit true to size and feel like you're wearing normal sneakers. Very will built and have no regrets whatsoever. Garmont also included insert shims to accommodate various shaped feet, the extra mile go along way! Highly recommend these over Merrell or other comparable outdoor footwear.
