Bloch´s philosophy of listening to dancers is still as strong today as it was when Jacob Bloch made his first pair of pointe shoes in 1932. Bloch arrived from Europe in 1931 at the height of the Great Depression and began making shoes by hand in the workshop where he lived.

Bloch loved watching ballet and visited many dance studios. At one such studio, he noticed a young dancer who was having trouble staying on pointe. Bloch promised he would make her a better pair of shoes, and so he did. After that, Bloch´s reputation for making good dance shoes spread rapidly.

At Bloch, the respect the company has for its clients' art is infinite. Contributing to a dancer's artistry, in even the slightest way is the ultimate Bloch goal. Admittedly jealous of their clients' artistic ability, Bloch is proud to contribute confidence and beauty through the best dance footwear in the world.

Love these shoes. Heed the reviews and order a 1/2 size up. I didn't the first time and had to reorder. The next size up fit perfectly. You can also adjust the fit slightly with the drawstring bow - just like the classic Bloch ballet dance shoe. Got a small blister the first time I wore them, but the leather is so supple they fit beautifully the next time. Classic styling (low enough vamp, but no "toe cleavage"), high-quality leather and construction, I will wear these a ton! The leather bottoms are a little slick, FYI. Looking to get them in other colors too.

I ordered a 1/2 size up, and still couldn't even fit my foot into this shoe. They run VERY small, order at least a size up, probably more like two sizes up.

I bought these shoes in black the first time, and liked them so much I bought the Blue Gitanes pair too. The color is just stunning. I have gotten so many compliments! Buy a half-size larger than you normally would, or else you will not be happy. They may seem a little tight on the first wearing but they mold to your foot nicely. They get very comfortable very quickly, and they are great for year-round. I am already saving up to get another color. If only I could decide... red or pink?

I'd also recommend: Merrell

I ordered half a size up and they were still too small. These were also quite narrow with a short toe box (toe cleavage alert!). Sadly, they were just not comfy or flattering. Gorgeous blue color, though!

The shoe as pictured appears to have a larger vamp, essential if you have problem feet. The actual style is cut low on the front and sides and is therefore uncomfortable for anyone with feet that need a higher vamp. A shame because the style is timeless and the leather is soft and able to be molded to the foot.

This was a splurge for me, and even though I kept them, not quite worth the price. The leather is definitely nice quality and the shoes are breathable. At first they feel like wearing slippers, but then they start to rub and hurt my feet after walking more than two hours. The footbed is suede-like and the shoes wear after a couple months, so I will have to find a way to maintain them. I had to get 1½ sizes larger than normal, but mostly because my feet are wide. They still make my feet look smaller and dainty, and I adore the style of the shoes. The packaging is too cute as well!

With my narrow feet and extremely high arches, I've never been able to wear ballet flats-- my feet slip right out of them. But these work! They are very feminine. Like other ballet flats, they don't offer much support but I love the soft lining material inside the shoes and the fact that they didn't take any breaking in.
