This is more stiff than I expected, but it served and is serving it's purpose well. I purchased this for foot Patrol in the rain and or snow, and it felt more comfortable as it wore. The only problem is the white Bates name that I need use a black magic marker daily, to cover, for my job. I purchased this on sale discounted.

I do a lot of hiking to do outdoor photography and this boot has been doing a great job. Comfortable and great traction over loose sand, rocks, snow, and ice.

I got these to travel to rainy Japan. Instantly comfy, no breaking in needed; they were weather proof, easy to walk in, good support. My main issue with them was having to take them off/put them back on regularly when entering buildings -- a lot slower than a pair of sneakers. That's an easy enough trade off for everything else.

These boots are very comfortable and feel like I’m wearing sneakers. Wasn’t sure how the size would run, but found them true to size. Order whatever size you are. Very light, and excellent quality. Very happy with them.

OK first of all I am the type person that have to have a good fitting boot due to a very high arch. The Bates are working out great. It took only two to three shifts and they are feeling better everyday. I order the boots and they were here the next day but wait...they were to narrow. It's now about 1710 hours and I called to order the wide in the same boot. I got the new pair the next day as well. They have the best service out there. It's better and faster than going to a store. By the way, first every review but I felt liked I should write a review due to the great service.

I stand on my feet for seven hours a day and was looking for a shoe boot that give my feet support. Another important thing that I was looking for was a shoe that would keep my feet dry in wet weather. I believe I have found both in these shoes. I have had a few days that it has rained while working for all seven hours of my shift. My feet were as dry as when I first put my shoes on and my feet had all the support that I needed. If I could change one thing about these shoes is that I would like a lower back so it would easier to put on and off with the shoe boot.

These boots are great! I’ve been using them all winter to get to work, which involves stomping through snowbanks to get the kids out of the car at school, and walking to the train or bus. My feet are always warm and dry, and the boots look nice, too.

First got D, felt a little narrow. Switched to EE-wide and they are just perfect. Very well balanced. Great leather. Well insulated. Not heavy. Quality made.

Hiking Boots that fit - My 13 year old boy scout has extra wide feet and needed a boot that could be waterproof and resilient. We ordered, tried on, and debated three different boots in an extra wide from three different companies. Only Zappos could have made the process so painless. Free shipping both ways - upgraded to second day air - wow - and efficient customer service to handle the credits for returns! This was the son's last choice of the three when we initially ordered because the plain black looked like a basketball shoe, not a leather hiking boot in the photo. It actually was the most comfortable and lightweight and my scout is bonding with it in spite of its unconventional appearance.

This is my first pair, but they seem well made, so far so good after 3 months. The fit is good. I've had good luck with this size, 10.5 EE, before, although maybe a little more room would have been good. The heel is a little high, but I think that's the style. My last boots were LL Bean Country Walkers, a softer material and flatter. The toes feel a little cramped on the Bates, but again, I think it's the style of the sole, similar to me to a hiking shoe. Overall I am happy, but with a little problem with my left foot, feeling a little cramped. It's possible one foot is larger than the other.

Nice shoe. Gore-Tex keeps feet dry. Sole offers great traction on all surfaces. Works well with my arch supports.

Solid - Very little break-in required. I think this shoe is going to last a long time! My only complaint is that it is difficult to get into without undoing the laces - must use a shoehorn. I hope this will improve over time.

Decided to try these boots for patrol after wearing out a pair of Timberland Goretex boots. Did a lot of shopping around and decided to buy the most expensive pair of Bates assuming they would be the best. They are very uncomfortable and I actually find myself taking the boots off during my shift just to relieve the pain. Wish I returned them immediately, but I tried to break them in. I do have wider feet but the pain is from the tongue pushing down. The tongue is attached so I can't even cut it to make it work. Overall, I regret spending the money on these boots. I do like the style though. I will go back to Timberland.

These shoes are terribly uncomfortable. They are very stiff (even after breaking them in) to the point that they pinch your feet when you bend the toe forward too far. I have wider feet than most, and am sure that contributed to my discomfort in these shoes, but I have worn plenty of professional boots and these so far have been the worst pair. I actually wish I had returned them, but I decided to try breaking them in first. Now after a year of wearing them on and off, they are on their way to the salvation army.

Surprisingly uncomfortable, normally wear a size 12 in a wide width, but these were very very uncomfortable even after trying to break in. Will try a larger size and wider width.
