Not very comfortable but functional. Will not return them because I'm too lazy but will not buy them again when they wear out. Hoping they'll become more comfortable when I wear them in.
The footbed in the toe box is rippled or contoured in some way that I found very uncomfortable. They appear to be made that way on purpose and not in error. I returned them.
I spend up to 14 hours a day in my shoes. Most of that time I am on concrete. Up until earlier this year, I wore DC brand shoes and replaced them every 6-12 months. Well, my most recent pair of DCs only lasted about a month before they literally fell apart, so I decided to try something different. Zappos gave me a full refund and allowed me to try some DVS shoes. They hurt my feet, and Zappos let me return them. Now I have these Bates boots, and my feet have never been happier at work. As an added bonus some lingering lower back and knee pains have gone away since I switched shoes. I don't know how long they will last, but so far I have 3 months on then and they feel great!
This is the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever worn! I bought these boots in January and by May my feet just couldn't take it anymore and I had to buy a new pair. There is no arch support and the insole was as thin as a piece of paper in only 4 months. I would not recommend these to my worst enemy!
The boot is simply too tight around my ankles causing pressure points and rubbing my ankles raw causing me to limp by the end of the day. Sending them back. Zappos service is always first class though.

I typically wear a 14 in running shoes. Ordered these in 13 and they are very roomy, maybe even loose. I bought these for motorcycling, and they are perfect for this use. They are comfortable to walk around in for a long time.
Bates is a good value brand (high quality for the price). There are several things I like about them, but it is important to know they generally run narrow. This is the only brand of shoe I have had to get in a wide. If you are choosing between these and the GX-8 by Bates, and money isn't important, then get the GX-8. They are more comfortable out of box, and come in water proof and insulated versions. The Annobon by comparison is more of a warm weather boot so it breathes easily. It does have a break in period for some people. It took me about 2 work weeks of wearing them before they stopped hurting after my shift. The GX-8 on the other hand were great out of box, but they are more expensive. Annobons are very flexible and have a great design where the ankle bends. Good tread pattern for muddy weather too. Overall they are good, but not as good as the GX-8.

The most comfortable supported boot there is available. Combine one part strong supported great fitting boot, take away bulk and restricted mobility, add one part running shoe equivalent, top off with endurance and durability and you have this boot. Function and comfort combined. Excellent for motorcycle riding, etc.

I originally bought the Timberland Pro Valor composite toe; this Bates is a superior boot. I will never buy Timberland again. This Bates has a better zipper, better overall fit, better tread. Needs a better insole though. The backs of these boots tend to cause your pants to catch. Not a bad boot though.
Bought these for my hubby he has been wearing since march he love them. He said they are very comfortable we'll worth the money.

Boot is comfortable, flexible, and durable. Excellent for heavy duty wear. Not as light or comfortable as the Magnum Interceptors but those are not available anymore. A little pricey on this site.
These boots are awesome! They do not need much time for break in. They have excellent ankle support.
Most awesome boot I've ever worn. No break in period. I have bunions and usually have to stretch my shoes in order to wear, these wore all day with no pain or problems!
Great Tactical/Sports Boot! I work in a sports arena. I do a lot of walking! I purchased a 2nd pair. 1st pair lasted 3 years! I actually walked the sole off the boot! Very comfortable, true to size/width. Great for all 4 seasons!
These boots are great. They weigh less than one standard issue are boot combined. I wore them in the field for three weeks and I am not disappointed. I had an issue with an eyelet, but Zappos cleared that up. They are incredibly comfortable as well. The only reason they do not get a five is because they are hard to get on until they break in and relax.

These 5" Tactical Boots are very comfortable and run true to size. Have great arch support which allows me to wear them all day.
I got these shoes for my boyfriend for winter. He seems to like them but they are a little bit to stiff and it took a bit of time to make them feel comfortable.
Bought these to start a new job with. I like the looks of them but that's about where it stops. First day I already had a cut in the right toe of my boot. All from getting out of the patrol vehicle, guess I caught a interior panel or something. The rip is deep enough to go through the top level down to the internal layer that is BRIGHT white. Some shoe shine got it fairly masked but the small flap on the top of my three week old boots annoys the heck out of me. My two year old pair of Danner's never had this problem after wrestling suspects on gravel, grass, concrete, walking through thick brush, etc etc. Guess I get what I paid for but I won't be buying another pair of Bates again after this experience.

Hello, I purchased these for myself. I am happy with them. The side zipper is nice to get them on and off. The foot support is not as good as I was hoping. I put an insole in them and they work fine now. Thanks.
