When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of body weight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.
While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new, innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivaled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).
Over the years, Baffin has created a line of industry-leading footwear that performs in extreme conditions for an ever-growing list of loyal users and activities, including snowmobiling, ice-fishing, hunting, mushing and working in industries like construction, oil, mining, forestry, and outdoor winter recreation. Because of this, Baffin has become the leader in footwear for all your cold weather needs.

Writing it for my boyfriend, he ordered a couple of other boots with the laces on the bottom as well, and he loved these. They are definitely big, but fit snug and are great, especially for a guy like him who is lazy with laces. Their purpose is dog walking at 6 am and snow shoveling, these should be great. Said they are super comfy too, and he loves the pull at the top. But great for putting over jeans, or any pant.

I bought these a week ago on sale here and they just came delivered (12/13/12) with free shipping. I was really hesitant about ordering these (or any shoe for that matter) online. The last and only shoe I ever ordered online was my old pair of snow hikers from LL Bean that lasted several years. And they were a little clunky and heavy. This last year, I had to discard them after winter because they lost their traction. So I needed new snow boots, especially to be prepared in case of another bad blizzard in the Seattle area like we had last year. So with that, I searched high and low online. I like that Zappos has the videos with all the photos of the shoes offered. It helps. Now, here is my predicament...I have Plantar Fasciitis and Tendonitis in the toe area in my left foot (a double whammy!) and my regular mens size is a 10 wide. Since my left foot is slightly swollen every day and averaging a thick sock for the cold, I ordered up a full size to 11. And most snow boots nowadays don't come in wide sizes anymore. When I put on the medium thick sock, the size 11 was perfect. I was a little nervous at first since the ankle area seemed a little narrow and snug, but after breaking them in for a half hour, they have loosened up. Even my wide foot in the D-medium size still allows descent room. And my troubled left foot has the best comfort ever...even with the help of the integrated arch support, which is a plus! After walking around in the house, these boots are really lightweight even though they look heavy and monstrous. A couple of reasons I bought these is because I wanted a snow boot that slipped on and off quickly without laces. The snap buckles on these are strong and sturdy. I also wanted a waterproof boot that also covered my calf to protect my pants. The boot liner is soft and comfy and I was able to tuck my denim jeans into the liner. I even tucked the denim over the liner, too, still protected by the outer shell and still had a comfortable fit around my calf. Now, I hope it snows in the next few weeks or months so I can put these bad boys to the test! I'm glad I bought these, especially through Zappos because they were on sale with free shipping. There are other sites, too, offering these same boots for more with no free shipping. So Zappos is the place for a good deal! Overall, my advice to other guys is to purchase one size up, even with a wide foot. Happy Holidays!
