When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of body weight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.
While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new, innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivaled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).
Over the years, Baffin has created a line of industry-leading footwear that performs in extreme conditions for an ever-growing list of loyal users and activities, including snowmobiling, ice-fishing, hunting, mushing and working in industries like construction, oil, mining, forestry, and outdoor winter recreation. Because of this, Baffin has become the leader in footwear for all your cold weather needs.

Bottom line: very happy with my purchase. Read on for more details. After getting my feet soaked and frozen in a freak snowstorm (during which my old boots disintegrated), I vowed to never let it happen again. I wanted a boot that was fully waterproof and warm, and these bad boys deliver on both fronts. I've been stomping through New York City potholes and haven't gotten wet feet yet. There's definitely a bit of a break in period. I have wide, tall feet. That in combination with the SuperFeet insoles I put in made the boot a bit tight on the top of my foot, but that boot has begun to give just a bit and it's no longer a problem. A bit more padding around the ankle would've been appreciated; when tightly laced up, the top of the boot cuts into my ankle a bit. This, too, seems to becoming less of a problem as the boot breaks in a bit. That said, I love pulling these on when it looks gnarly outside. They're getting comfier every day and they keep the weather out. For the price, I am completely happy with these boots.

I normally wear a 10 1/2 shoe. This shoe is sold only as a 10 or 11. The 11 was way too big. The 10 is great. The high ankle is better than moccasin height in less than major snowstorms.
I'd also recommend: Sorel

Great fit and comfortable. Used in the snow a day after a storm and they kept my feet very dry. Like the ankle height, pratical but not too bulky.

Very nice boot. Runs a little wide in width, so good for thicker socks. Comfortable so far but thin insole so will prob up grade. For sure this is my new primary boot for cold rainy days, haven't tried in the snow yet(but I'm sure it'll do great).
