When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of body weight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.
While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new, innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivaled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).
Over the years, Baffin has created a line of industry-leading footwear that performs in extreme conditions for an ever-growing list of loyal users and activities, including snowmobiling, ice-fishing, hunting, mushing and working in industries like construction, oil, mining, forestry, and outdoor winter recreation. Because of this, Baffin has become the leader in footwear for all your cold weather needs.

First, maybe I’ve led a sheltered internet life, but Zappos is consistently the best shopping experience on or off the net. I bought the Baffin Impact boots because I could not find anything that would keep my feet warm. My toes just get cold. We don’t have any real cold extremes here (couple of mornings in single digits, afternoons at least 20 this year), but my toes get very cold easily. I had some other pac boots that would not keep them warm so I tried several versions of boots with between 1000 and 2000 grams of thinsulate insulation. Nothing worked. I am outside all day with little or no opportunity to get someplace warm and the only way I could stay 1/2 comfortable was to wear 2 pairs of socks with hand warmer packs in between. That compromise had weaknesses, especially having to walk up to 12 hours a day with lumps in your socks. I tried the Baffin Impact because of the reviews here, and they worked as advertised. They keep my feet warm and my feet don’t sweat even on 40 degree afternoons. My reason for writing the review is to let you know when you buy them in your size, they fit really tight at first. But wear them around the house an hour or two, and it works. They are so tight at first you will think there is no way, but give them a chance. After they break in for an hour or two, they are still very snug, but I think that is part of what makes them work so well. When I first got them I worked 8 - 12 hour days in a row either in an unheated, uncabbed bobcat or walking through a mix of snow and salt in the two back to back east coast blizzards, they were almost perfect. Except for the heel being a little on the loose side compared to the rest of the fit, they were perfect. The heel being a little loose did not create any irritation though. And for such a large boot they are almost light. I usually take a EE and they only come in one width, but the boot seems to conform to your foot, so the width was fine.

First let me say great service. I ordered on a Saturday and recieved them Monday. The boots seemed tight when I first put them on but after an hour of wearing they fit like a glove. I can't wait for some real cold weather to put the boots to the test. Great job Zappos !

This boot saved my husband's leg in a sledding accident! This is a serious boot. The padded upper construction is not only warm and well made, it cushioned the impact of his leg against a hidden block of ice at the bottom of suicide hill. While he still had a significant injury to that leg, he clearly would have broken it without the superior build of this boot. Suffice to say, I am a believer in this boot. Previous pair lasted 10 years.

These are taller than I expected, coming up over halfway to my knee, but that's OK, more to keep warm. Super warm, seem well constructed - time will tell. Simple buckles for quick on/off and lightweight. They are tight but I've had similar boots with thick Therma-plush and it does loosen up over time.

I bought these boots for snowmobiling and they are the warmest boots I have ever worn. I wear a womens 9 and the boots fit well. At first I thought they were too tight but after several wearings the extremely padded insert compressed. The boots are a bit bulky but lightweight for their size.
I'd also recommend: coldwave
