When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of body weight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.
While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new, innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivaled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).
Over the years, Baffin has created a line of industry-leading footwear that performs in extreme conditions for an ever-growing list of loyal users and activities, including snowmobiling, ice-fishing, hunting, mushing and working in industries like construction, oil, mining, forestry, and outdoor winter recreation. Because of this, Baffin has become the leader in footwear for all your cold weather needs.

My second pair of Baffins. Last year I purchased a pair of Baffin Selkirks. The Crossfires are mid calf boot rather than a high calf boot and rated for slightly higher low temperatures than the Selkirks. I used the Crossfires a few days ago in below freezing temperatures. I did some walking and a lot of standing still. They were very comfortable, very warm and very light. Again Zappos and Baffin came through. I have tried a number of brands over the years and for winter books you can't beat Baffin for warmth, weight and comfort.

Surprisingly light for a boot this size, extremely warm and comfortable. I spent two days building snow caves at Brighton ski resort in 3 feet of fresh powder, I didn't get cold or wet at all.

I just bought this boot and have been out in a 10" snow (15 degrees) shoveling and sledding with kids for 5 or so hours. My feet were beyond warm, bordering hot, so I don’t think lower temps or duration will be an issue. At first the sole cushioning/insulation didn’t seem adequate, but I got over the perceived comfort issue quickly and as I said, warmth was not a problem at all. I’m getting used to the height of the boot (I’m used to a lower cut boot), but the lightweight of this boot is a treat. I’m not yet sold on the tread grip though.

When it comes to my feet, I take footwear to heart. Being an ex-trucker and out an about, having good footwear matters. With 2010 starting out to be the coldest year in a long time, I needed a boot that could help me make it. We all know times are tough right now. So I wonted something top of the line, but not gonna break me. When I found the Baffin Crossfire I fell in love. It was the packboot I was looking for. The style, the comfort and most of all price. I may not have tested them in the arctic, but feel if I had to go, these boots could hold up to the job. The name says it all.
I'd also recommend: Redwing boots on low cost end , on high end Scarpa boots

Just got the boots and they fit great, feel like slippers around the house. Not worn outside yet but they sure have all the features to keep my feet warm. This post is really about the Zappos value added service, fantastic! I ordered with free 5-7 day shipping. I got the boots in two days, Kentucky to Maine!
