- Timberwolf nubuck suede upper. Timberwolf leathers are enhanced with silicone to replace some of its natural oils.
- Fixed B-Tek hollow fiber layer with Thermaplush liner. B-Tek is a 4-channel hallow fiber layer that acts as a moisture control system. Thermaplush is a comfort layer next to the foot that is soft yet durable. This velvety smooth innermost material wicks moisture away from the foot.
- Removable thermal insole provides cushion and helps keep you warm.
- Cushioned EVA compound midsole adds cushion and support.
- Icepaw technology outsole. Inspired by the polar bear's surefooted grip on icy terrain, Baffin® outsoles with Icepaw technology combine Icepaw pads to the bottom of the outsole. These pads are molded directly to the outsole from a proprietary compound that has a remarkable grip on both ice and snow. Love the shoe! It’s comfortable and warm, easy to slip on and off. It offers good grip on ice, snow, and slush. It is just what I wanted for walking to and from my car to work in the Minnesota winter.

Polar explorers have come to appreciate the unique qualities of Baffin boots. Doug Stoup, a celebrated polar adventurer, used Baffin boots to travel over 1,000 kilometers across the Antarctic. In 2006 at least three separate international expeditions chose Baffin boots to get to the North Pole, including, of course, Baffin's own polar trekking team.
When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of bodyweight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.
While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivalled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).
