Like another pair of Asolo boots I've owned for years, these shoes are basically stiff. That is, there is generally less flexibility in the overall structure of the shoe than in other similar shoes. However, this is not a bad thing. The shoes are quite comfortable, requiring no break-in period. One gets the sense, so far, that they're very sturdy. I've already been asked twice about them. My size 8 shoes are roomier than other 8s, allowing the use of thicker socks.

I’ve owned a pair of Garmont approach shoes for 11 years that were made in Romania. When I came across these shoes from Asolo, I realized they are essentially the same shoe, likely built on the same last and probably built by the same factory in Romania. I’ve had my Garmonts resoled once and they are still going strong - only a little small for me now (I get away with a very thin sock). I ordered the next size up in the Asolos to replace my Garmonts for an open-ended global cycling expedition I am planning. Seeing them in person only confirms my suspicions as to their heritage. If you’re looking for a very supportive and bomb-proof shoe for the long term (best uses: lightweight hiking, cycling, walking), then these are the shoes for you. I look forward to a "second" lifetime of use from my second pair.

Got these puppies on sale which was a treat. They felt true to size and width for the most part. I had read in a previous review that someone suggested replacing the sole insert that came with the shoe with a pair from super feet which I did and they feel great. Light weight, water proof, and beautifully styled to boot. I really like my Asolos.

Very nice hiking shoes. They look a little like bowling shoes once you get them on. Fit was great and I have a wide foot. Stiff sole, which I like.

Jacole – Absolutely the best shoes I’ve owned. I have had the boots very similar to these for three years and still going. Love the lace to toe design, also. Thanks Zappos for the great service and free speedy delivery.

About Asolo
Asolo´s goal is to create great footwear for all of your outdoor needs, in all conditions, at all altitudes: from light walking to hiking, from backpacking to the most treacherous climbing - whether it be on ice or mixed terrain. The footwear is designed around the foot; flexible, lightweight, and at the same time, highly resistant. Fit and performance are major strengths for this design. The breathable footwear is able to shock-absorb even on the toughest terrains, while keeping away humidity, water, and cold weather. The highly researched soles are constructed in such a way that they will prevent slips and falls on the most slippery of terrains.
Since the beginning, Asolo is connected with experiences and people who live for the mountain. Together with the brand, they test boots that have been developed for the alpine/mountaineering athletes and for all people who "live" the mountain with love and passion.

Fantastic Shoes! These shoes are perfect for long walks with or without a day pack. Solidly built with good support. They were comfortable from the first day. The only thing I'd change is the laces - I prefer flat laces to the included round laces as flat laces tend to stay tight longer.

This is a great trail shoe, but you will need to remove the original inserts and add Superfeet inserts for better arch support. I had my right one built up by my orthotics guy, easy build still very stable.

Total - From the moment I opened the box I could see and feel the "thought process". The sizing was spot on. I walk some hard miles, trails and hallways. I wear them everywhere, on the field and in the class room as a teacher. I have been wearing Asolo for over 10 years and I've never been disappointed. Because of my heel spurs I do insert a pair of heel pads and I change out the laces to custom cut Matching "climbing equipment" string or line. It really tightens them up. Zappos delivered the promise. I plan to continue using the service. *Women always check them out and comment "?" Is that a good reason to buy? Who cares!

Asolo Distance Goes the Distance and More!! This shoe is everything I expected. Good style (at least as good as the picture), good craftsmanship. The shoe is stiff as it is suppose to be for "approaching," but maybe a little more so than expected if it's just to be worn around town as a casual shoe. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO A FRIEND!!!

I love Asolo - These shoes, like all Asolos, are great! I love the way they look and feel. Only one concern: they don’t have much arch support, but this can be fixed with an insole. I would buy another pair if I could afford it. BUY ASOLO, THEY ARE MADE IN ROMANIA!!
Brands I'd also recommend: any Asolo shoe

Asolo Distance - These shoes are definitely water tight and built to last. Don't let the look fool you...They are not a rock climbing shoe... They are a hiker. Had to replace the foot beds right away as the ones that come with them are paper thin. If you are looking for a waterproof hiking shoe and don't need the ankle support of a boot... they are a nice choice.

Great light hikers that I suspect I will appreciate more once I start hitting the trail with them. For the walking around town when it\'s cold or wet (my other use for them) they may be a little overkill, though. The shoes are pretty stiff, solid soles with not a lot of give. But sturdy and I think they look pretty good too. Some of the outer layer of fabric appears to be only glued on (no stitching) and I do worry about the longevity of it staying put.

These are lousy shoes. I have normal feet with normal arches. These shoes feel completely flat; there is no arch support at all and are not comfortable and they are not true to size. I wish I would have never bought these shoes. Other than that they seem to be a high quality rugged shoe with a nice stiff sole.

Toe cap rubs small toes - After wearing these around the house for a couple of hours, I took them on a test hike of 2 miles. The built in toe cap caused blisters on my left foot. I sent them back to Zappos.
