This is a good shoe. It feels more like a road shoe with an aggressive tread than a trail shoe. The foam is softer and provides more cushioning with the trade off of being less stable against rolling. The lateral and heel stability is also less than a shoe like the Gel-Trabuco, which is better for rougher ground. I\'m wearing these for longer runs on better trails and the Gel-Trabuco on the rougher trails where I want a more stable shoe. This is a good shoe. I just wouldn\'t try to run fast on a rough single track wearing it.

I found these shoes to be very comfortable for the first month. However the tread started to separate on me after about a month and now it seems like the the support is breaking down a bit. I used these shoes just for trail walking, so their is no reason why these should not hav3 lasted more than 2 months. I would definitely recommend a different pair of shoes over these Asics.

Great shoes! Like the design and comfort. Also, flat shoe laces stay put instead of the round ones.

This is an excellent winter running shoe. The area on top of the toes is not an open mesh, it is a lightweight nylon of some sort. Keeps heat in better, and is water resistant. I just ran this through the mud and ice in Chicago at 20 degrees. Slushy streets, half-cleared sidewalks, frozen lakefront, didn't matter, I kept my footing and stayed warm. Trail runner? Try all terrain urban ice warrior. I would not use it in warm temps though, as the nylon did not breathe very well.

Excellent trail running shoes. I was bummed that Asics seemingly quit making the Gel Trabuco GTX, but this shoe is every bit as comfortable and capable. Like one of the other reviews stated, it really feels like a road shoe for the trail (in a good way). It's comfortable as anything, and the wider-than-a-road-shoe sole helps with stability on the trail. But this isn't an overly-stable shoe. If you want stability, get something else. This shoe is made for miles and miles and miles of comfortable trail running over any terrain. My only gripe (and it's a pretty small one) is that they're not completely waterproof. They definitely offer more water resistance than normal shoes (I've run through 2-3 inch-deep water in them), they do get a little damp on the inside. And I don't think I would notice it if I wasn't used to wearing Gore-Tex-lined shoes (which are completely waterproof). But for the price difference and the comfort these provide, I'm very happy.

These are good looking shoes. They are very comfortable and they almost feel a little insulated. These are good winter running shoes. They seem to be well put together.

I've had my Aztecs for 10 months. I swapped out the insoles for Montrail's thermo-moldable foam insoles. This combination makes these my go to shoes if I'm on my feet for extended periods. Very cushiony, yet a decent amount of arch support. I'm no longer a runner but like to trail hike. This shoe isn't really durable enough for rugged, rocky terrain. Nor is it an overly stable shoe. It doesn't help that the shoes are a little too wide for my narrow, B width feet. It is fairly water resistant due to the non mesh fabric. I did have to re-glue the rubber toe kick after a few rocky trail excursions as well as the decorative gel badge on the back of the shoe.

Brands I'd also recommend: If you dont have narrow feet you have endless choices.

It doesn't help that the shoes are a little too wide for my narrow, B width feet. I wish Asics would offer this in a narrow, but I know that'll never happen. Why should us guys with narrow problem feet have shoes that actually fit. Don't get me started. Well, at least when it's below 40 deg. I can wear thick socks and worry a little less about rolling an ankle. Back to the Aztec. It is fairly water resistant due to the non mesh fabric. I did have to re-glue the rubber toe kick after a few rocky trail excursions as well as the decorative gel badge on the back of the shoe. I wanted to buy another pair here but I need a 13 and the largest left is 12.5. Whats up with that? Very rare size that 12.5. I'm sure Asics will discontinue this shoe since I like it so much. Asics design team if you're reading this, for colors on the Aztec redesign - change the chartreuse elements to blue. Chartreuse is a bit too fem. Back to the endless search.

Brands I'd also recommend: If you dont have narrow feet you have endless choices.

Warm shoe, probably intended for use in cold temps. Higher cut than normal...not obvious from pictures. Rugged and stable, used for hiking and worked great. Usually runners don't have good support for hiking.
