This style is very popular on sites like Urban Outfitters and Topshop right now. I love the trend, but didn't want to pay tons of money for something that is poorly made. I stumbled upon the Ariat Heritage Lacer II and was impressed with all the (+) reviews. My boots arrived last night and I was very happy with their appearance. The soles have excellent tread and provide support that you won't find in similar boots. Good quality leather too. My only warning to the ladies: these boots are not dainty. Not super clunky, but if you are self-conscious about your foot size (I'm a 9.5), just be aware that they won't do you any extra favors in that department. Definitely recommend this to others. Plus, if you get sick of the kiltie style, you can remove it and are left with nice black boots.

These boots are great. I took the tassel off and like the look better. They are great with wool socks, and they keep my feet warm. I love the combat boot look with jeans.

These boots are a good buy: good leather, good enough leather and fabric interior, plus a brilliantly designed sole which provides amazing support. The patented Ariat stabilizing "system" is not hype: it provides great comfort, a really stable fit, and is made from long-lasting materials. My first pair of Ariat lace-up boots were my go-to boots for walking in all seasons, and they lasted 15 years (not kidding). (I oiled them several times a year with a good quality leather cream; that's all I did to take care of them.) Predictably, given the nearly universal decline in manufacturing standards, this pair is slightly less well made than my first pair, but is still good quality. They are not clunky, and I can wear them with casual or business clothes. I just bought a pair for my 81-year-old mother, who needs to be steady on her feet. At first she wasn't thrilled with the lace-up height and the sort of work boot look, but she is now sold on the fit and comfort as I am. Five stars all around!

I don't ride horses, but I like Ariats. These are super cute and very comfortable. They do feel slightly like a work boot; the tiniest bit clunky, but that may just be because they run a little on the large side. A half size down may fit more like what you'd expect from an every-day boot if you're not wearing them with thick socks.

Well, I love Ariat boots, had a pair of paddock Ariats that I wore out after 10 years. So, I thought I\'d try these. Unfortunately, they are not true to size - I am a 9.5 in shoes and these fit more like a 10. Also, the right was stretched out compared to the left boot. Also noticed they were made in China - not happy about that. So, I returned them and have ordered a pair of 1880 Lucchese boots. More true to size and made in America, which I think is something we all should support these days.

Additional Brand Information

In 1990, Ariat International co-founders Beth Cross and Pam Parker set out to create a new company and a new way of thinking about footwear for riders. They realized that traditional English and Western riding boots were stiff, heavy and hard on the feet – not very well suited for riding. Both riders with backgrounds in the athletic shoe industry, they realized the unique needs of equestrians – both in the saddle and on the ground – and the performance-enhancing benefits that could be brought to riding boots to give these athletes an edge.

So they assembled a group of top footwear engineers and designers, and set them on the task of creating the world's most technically innovative performance riding boots. They started by re-designing the outsole, rethinking the arch support system and finally taking a hard look at the suitability of "traditional" last shape and fit. While they were building the technology platform for Ariat boots, they were also talking to hundreds of top riders who helped in the design and development of the final product.

In 1993, Ariat shipped their first pair of boots, and today Ariat is the world leader in performance equestrian footwear, offering a full range of English and Western riding boots, work boots and casual footwear – plus new lines of performance apparel and accessories to fully outfit today’s equine athletes and equestrian-inspired lifestyle enthusiasts.

Whether you are a professional equestrian athlete or a novice rider, you will find an Ariat boot with the performance technology that is perfect for you. Ariat boots cushion the foot while stabilizing the heel and arch, dramatically reducing fatigue and stress to the feet, legs and lower back. This amazing technology can also be found in a variety of casual Ariat shoes – providing you with comfortable and stylish alternative for those relaxed, easy-going days.

I have difficult feet: size 10, narrow, and high-arched. (Ever try to find light-weight, non-ugly hiking shoes in a narrow size?) I HATE shopping for shoes, and when I finally convince myself to buy some, I sit around staring at them for weeks, unwilling to try something that will probably prove to be too wide or take months to break in. I had none of these problems with the Ariat Heritage Lacers that my husband kindly bought me on Zappos so that I would have something rugged and waterproof for travel. They are slightly too wide, so I needed two pairs of socks. I was also put off at first by how long my feet looked in a paddock boot. On the other hand, when I finally made myself wear them, the AHLs went on my feet and stayed there for 30 hours while I traveled from California to Britain. They didn’t pinch, my very narrow heels didn’t shift and blister, and my feet stayed warm and dry. I wore them up steep Welsh hills, in various airports, and around miles and miles of London pavement. My horse-riding daughter was right: these Ariats are keepers.

Love the look of these boots and the quality is superb, but they are so heavy, my legs ache from the weight. I wanted something a bit more country looking because I usually wear pretty girly looking stuff. These were to be the start of a mid-life image change for me. Sadly, I don’t have the leg strength to wear them.

Great boot - These are comfortable with almost no break-in. The leather is very soft. Great for all-day wear and walking.

I'M AN ARITAT GIRL - Have a pair of Ariat Ropers that are possibly 20-years-old and they're still the first pair of shoes that I grab whenever I put on a pair of jeans. My Ropers are a true testament to Ariat....hardwearing, hardworking, and good looking. My Lacers had NO break-in time and look great, and honestly, I'm hoping they last just as long...PS I'm going to keep my Ropers forever…love 'em that much.

Love these boots! They look especially great with blue jeans. I thought I'd immediately remove the kilt thing, but somehow still haven't! The leather is terrific. Basically, these boots are a fantastic value; they are comfortable, elegant and slightly chunky at the same time!

Most comfortable boot ever! No breaking in was needed. My regular size 7 Med was a perfect fit. I wear them almost daily, dress slacks or jeans. I get lots of compliments on them. Love the black, thinking of getting another color too!

Best boots I've ever purchased - I needed a good pair of boots for a winter trip to Europe. My legs may have been aching for all the stair climbing, hill climbing etc I did, but my feet were NEVER SORE!!! And, they were always warm! No breaking in necessary! Great support, a nice neutral heal and the kilt on the front can come off for an alternate look! LOVE these boots so much I am going to buy a second pair for when I wear the first ones out!

WOW - I am not sure if this is the same boot made over, but this is the boot that turned me on to Ariat. I have had them for around 8 years. Can't say enough about the comfort and durability. I have foot problem and Ariats are great for support and comfort. Cannot recommend them more highly. Zappos is the greatest!!!
