I had the black one for a while and just bought cayenne. Love the way zippers are positioned, water resistant fabric, water resistant zippers. This is not a giant backpack shown on model in photo, it is about half that in proportion shown, so on a female 5'2" small frame, it is a perfect smaller size for day to day, biking, hiking, climbing and weights nearly nothing. I used to be a fan of Osprey, the whistle buckle, lightweight, adjustable sizes, and lots of pockets. But past couple years they stopped using sweat-resistant quick dry backing, and only make regular mesh and fabric feel absorbent type foam that does not dry well. I walk/hike a lot, so it is a deal breaker for a bag to not dry fast. This little bag however is water resistant, yes in 90+F weather any bag gets sweaty, but you take it off, wipe it down or air dry a minute and it is dry and ready! No cushion on the back means faster dry and lighter weight. Also while shoulder straps are not cushioned, I found that they are more durable (in Ospreys internal shoulder strap cushion would usually wear off, rip at the load bearing top seam internally and disintegrate. You could feel fabric barely holding together once cushion separates). Top loading pocket is very easy to access, circular full opening is the best, so that you are not ripping your hands open over zippers and velcro while trying to squeeze to reach inside a pocket. Sure, you might need a sleeve for a laptop to cushion it if you are paranoid and or plan to toss the bag around a lot, but I did not find need to bring a sleeve, it's extra weight if all you do is walk with it and use common sense. One con, wish hip strap was removable, but I tightened it on a side for most times unless I need support, and it does not bother me. So all in all, best daypack for me!

I'd also recommend: Osprey

This is a highly technical small backpack with excellent craftsmanship. It's ultralight for throwing into a larger pack or travel luggage (stuffed smartly into its own front pocket), but it's also quite sturdy. After months of use, you'll likely see next to no wear. In rainy places, which Colorado is this year, this pack isn't fully waterproof (though the zippers come close), but it's highly water resistant. You couldn't use it as a dry bag, but you don't need a pack cover for it either. Be aware that it doesn't have a padded back panel, so careful packing is required. Or do what I do if I'm carrying pointy objects (shoes, water bottles, and the like) and stick in a random piece of quarter-inch closed-cell foam cut to fit. Shoulder straps are high-count flat webbing -- the good stuff -- but this pack is surprisingly comfortable and carries well, even on one shoulder (important, as the back is solid nylon, not spacer mesh, and can get sweaty on hot days). The webbing waist belt is on the shortish side and would comfortably fit up to maybe a 36-inch waist or thereabouts. Personally, I don't find much use for it unless I'm running, when it helps stabilize the pack. And I don't often use the clever strip of plastic and webbing that serves as a gear rack, but you can clip a lot of carabiners onto it, or even carry an ice axe, if you have the need. I'd like to see some different colors one day -- something between standard black (always a fave, but it's hard to see what you have in there 'cause it's so dark) and over-the-top neon (highly visible, but sometimes too visible during international travel when you don't want to stick out as a tourist). Gray? Navy blue, anybody? Also, a slightly larger version -- maybe 25 liters -- in a similar style and shape would be appreciated, and more useful as an ultralight extended-travel pack. I know there's a Cierzo 25, but it's a top-loader with a top pocket; totally different creature. But instead of dwelling on what I can't have, I appreciate what I can: A terrific, sturdy small pack for a multitude of tasks.

I'd also recommend: Black Diamond Bullet, Black Diamond Hollowpoint, Arcteryx Sebring 18 or 25, Patagonia Ascensionist 2
