These are great shoes. Very good looking and very comfortable. They have just the right support and just the right amount of heel. I ordered them in the mocha color and it is a nice dark brown color. I am very hard on shoes so these embossed patent leather shoes are great since they do not scuff and can be wiped clean easily. Thanks for offering these, Zappos!

Love, love these shoes. They are super comfortable and stylish. Love the color. I followed the advice in the prior reviews and ordered a half size smaller than usual and they fit perfectly.

Extremely Comfortable and Beautiful Loafer -
I've been looking for a new brown loafer to replace my Paul Green loafers that I've had and worn almost everyday for five years. These fit the bill, no break-in period, beautiful leather (although a bit shinier than I would like but will be great for spring). My only gripe, and it’s almost non-existent, is that the toe is really square and makes my small foot look even a little bit smaller. The toe box does contribute to the comfort, so I guess one might cancel out the other. Overall, if you're looking for a different yet comfortable loafer that can go with suits and jeans, this will work for you.

I needed a shoe that my orthotics would fit into. Based on a previous reviewers comment about orthotics I ordered this shoe. The shoe is very comfortable, however, it does stretch out considerably. I should have gotten a half size smaller.

I bought one pair in black and they were so comfortable on a trip that I bought another one in brown. Everyone comments on them, plus they can be casual or dressier, depending on the outfit. I wear a wide usually and these fit so well.

Great Shoe!!!!!!
I first saw these shoes in a little boutique in Philly. I bought them and I was so pleased with the comfort. I went to buy them again and they were gone. Never saw them again until I saw them on Zappos. I bought the black and dark brown. I was soo excited. This shoe is very comfortable however the shoe does stretch a lot so I would suggest a size smaller then usual. Excellent with a long skirt or pants.

Couldn't get the right size -
Well made basic loafer, but I would need a size 5.75. I ordered the British size 6 (I normally wear an 8.5-9) and it was too big, even with thick socks. The 5.5 was snug enough in the heel but too small - short in the front. Was sad to return them; they would've been great commuting shoes.

I tried these in burgundy which is priced lower than the other colors. Pretty! I've never tried this brand before. The quality seems superb. They are very cushy inside. The leather even seems stretchy. The heel has a lot of traction. The color is beautiful. I was going to keep them until I noticed a piece of foam that had been inserted in the front around the upper portion for packaging was still in both shoes! Without those they were roomier and I didn't want to have to wear socks with them. I should have noticed they looked a bit wide in front.

Versatile, Comfortable, Attractive Shoe -
My Ara Portland’s are so comfy, straight out of the box ...wore them to work. They looked great with my business casual chinos, as well as with my weekend jeans.
I chose the beautiful Mocca Croco, a rich chocolate brown. Stunning!
The leather is wonderfully soft. To maintain the shoe's shape, insert a pair of shoe trees in them after each wearing ...a good practice for all leather footwear. Add a dab of polish, and your shoes will always look fresh and new.
Zappos upgraded my shipping, so they arrived Monday, even though the order was placed Friday afternoon ...nothin' but LOVE for the ZAPPOS TEAM!

These shoes are wonderfully made and very handsome. The lining is delicious soft leather, the upper is rich in color and texture, and the bed is nicely padded. Unfortunately I had to return it because it is just too wide, even with my bunion.

These loafers are sized 1/2 size larger, than marked. They are otherwise most comfortable. Light arch support; which is fine for summer. Good with slacks, skirts, and w/e shoes.

Yay! Another color of a favorite shoe!
I've had the ara Portland in black for two years now and have been wearing the daylights out of them, not that they look like it-- this is one durable shoe. It's great with pants suits, dresses up jeans, and I can walk in it forever and the fit is perfect. And I finally found a second color (the tortoise brown) in my size!!! This shoe seems a little pricey, but it's a complete winner.

I was introduced to Ara in Germany when I lived there, and have worn this brand for decades. I still have a pair of Ara loafers that I bought in 2000 for about $79! Those were the days, I'm afraid. Prices may go up, but Ara quality stays the same year after year. I could wear these shoes 24/7 and they go with about any outfit. Thanks, Zappos, for featuring this great brand!

Great Style with Comfort to Boot!
I recently bought this shoe and absolutely love it! I bought it specifically to use as a "walking around town comfortably without looking like I just left the gym" shoe, and that's just what I got. It is very comfortable and also very stylish. One caveat, however, is the sizing. I find that whenever I order a European made shoe, I end up with the wrong size, either too large or too small. I always end up buying it in multiple sizes until I find the right one and then send the wrong sizes back. This time I ended up with a smaller than usual size, but had to add a foam insole b/c the shoe was too roomy from top to bottom (height, not width). This, of course, only adds to the comfort level I was looking for, but I feel the shoe would have been very comfy without the insole had it been the right height. Regardless, I love this shoe and recommend it.

I Love these shoes!
I first tried Ara shoes on at a local store and didn't buy them...for no particular reason. I then went home and obsessed over them and tried to figure out why I hadn't bought them. I went on Zappos, found them and they arrived the next day. They are my everyday black shoes and I love them. They are the most comfortable shoes ever. In fact, I check back all the time to see what other Ara shoes are available to add to my collection. Well worth the price. Really, they are my most comfortable, looks good with everything shoes.
