I'd been running in the Altra Instinct 2.0 for a couple of months before buying the Torin 1.5. By comparison, the Torin fits and runs more like a traditional running shoe, except with zero heel lift. It is a little narrower in the toe box than the Instinct, but still plenty wide and open (the Instinct was a little too wide for me, but still runs fine). There is more cushioning in the Torin than in the Instinct, but the Torin's cushioning is firmer, enabling it to hold up better to mileage or even heavier body weights. The Torin feels great right now at about 45 miles a week. I'm confident it will still run well as my mileage climbs back up to normal levels (65-70). It provides a good snug fit while still delivering ample width in the forefoot. I am a mid-to-slightly back of mid-foot striker and despite the very thin outersole, the Torin does not seem to be wearing out any faster than traditional, thick-soled running shoes. The shoe is very flexible and really wants you to strike mid-foot or fore-foot with it, but I imagine a heel-striker would still find this shoe quite comfortable. I would predict that the outersole at the heel would wear fairly fast for a heel striker running high mileage. I don't know that for a fact I am anticipating so based on the design. The tongue design is brilliant, keeping the tongue straight and in place all the time. The lacing system is well thought out, having never once experienced laces coming loose or causing uncomfortable pressure points. Like the Instinct, the Torin runs true to size. Ignore my rating about arch support, as no running shoe made provides real solid arch support. Despite all the erroneous hype to the contrary, arch support is just not all that necessary when you're running, especially for mid- to-forefoot strikers. No way to say if this is the shoe for you, but it is surely worth buying a pair to find out.

I'd also recommend: Nothing else like the Altra design... yet.

I wore the New Balance minimus on a long run. My feet were crying afterward. I have wide feet and a pretty high arch. So - I tried the Altra Torin 1.5 and have run over 50 miles now and my feet have never been happier! A great solution - well done Altra.

Having a hard time finding a minimalist, zero-drop shoe that still offers a touch of cushioning from the world underfoot? You simply haven’t encountered the Torin 1.5 Running Shoe. Altra’s Torin 1.5 neutral running shoe embraces the idea of minimalist design without shortchanging you on cushioning or comfort. I didn't fall head over heels for the first generation Torin. But what a difference a year makes. While Altra left the essence of the shoe alone in the 1.5, it feels like a completely refreshed running experience. Breathable air mesh goes from the tips of your toes the back of your heel for an improved fit while also allowing air to flow freely through the shoes to keep those hard working feet cool and comfortable. The new upper also feels more flexible and lends a nice aesthetic to the this next generation Torin. The combination of the Natural Ride System (NRS) and FootPod Outsole provide ample feedback from the road while following the anatomy of the human foot, minimizing any external influence from the shoe on your gait. If you're looking for a ride that gives you the benefits of the zero drop experience without dropping you right to the concrete then you should check out the Torin 1.5.

I got my Torin 1.5s as a requested birthday present from my wife. They fit better than I thought they would with me having a high arch and narrow, flat foot. While they are wide in the toe box, the rest of they fit my narrow foot well. I'm a neutral runner who is just now realizing the benefits of zero drop shoes. I'm working my way into them but having put up 13 miles in them, and I'm thrilled. They aren't as light as the Altra One2 but are made to be more substantial for longer distances from what I can tell. My feet absolutely LOVE these shoes! My toes have room to spread out but they don't move round. The cushioning is slightly firm but perfect for longer distances. As for performance, this is a great high mileage trainer or marathon+ distance shoe. As for the zero drop design, do yourself a favor and make sure your cadence is high. (The faster your steps, the less impact they have on your body and the more efficiently you run.) I would also advise that people moving to zero drop shoes do it gradually. For me it's a better, faster, more efficient way to run but you can't switch from 8+mm shoes to zero drop instantly. Altra has some great suggestions on form, cadence and transition on their website. Overall they make quality shoes and the Torin 1.5 is no different.

These are the most comfortable running shoes I have ever owned. I have put about 40 miles in so far and I am not looking back. I love the zero drop and room for my toes. They help me focus on good form without making me feel like someone is hammering my forefoot like some minimalists I've tried. Awesome shoe.
