I love these shoes. Previous trail shoes were the Brooks Pure Grit (which I also really liked) after putting these on, I would never go back. I wear The One (size 6.5) and The One Squared (size 6) for my road shoes. I purchased the Lone Peak 1.5 in a size 6 and they are perfect. If you have never worn Altra shoes before, the wide toe box may make the shoes feel like they're too big at first, but feel where your bug toe is relative to the front of the shoe and you should be just fine. Embrace the space and fall in love with these shoes!

Altra is my new favorite shoe maker and the Lone Peak is my new all time favorite shoe. Because of various foot problems, I no longer run so I can't evaluate it as a running shoe but as an "everyday" shoe it finally gives my toes the room they need and the fabric uppers stretch comfortably over my bunions. After reading Katy Bowman's book, "Every Woman's Guide to Foot Pain Relief", I started looking for shoes without a heel slope and the Altra Zero Drop is one of the very few available in any shoe style. They are so comfortable! Most of the styles are only available in jazzy colors and I wish at least one was available in solid black so I could wear them with more clothes but these work with jeans and yoga pant styles.

I absolutely positively love my Altra zero drop Lone Peak shoes they handled over 790 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail and are still in reasonable condition. I would not keep hiking in the same pair but I am saving them for short trail runs. They were so comfortable even after my feet swelled up I had some extra room.

I've always used Salomon for trail running, but wanted to give Altra's trail series a try after the Altra Torin became my favorite shoe for road running. This shoe offers good traction and support, though I found it to be a bit loose around the top of the foot no matter how I tied the laces. My heel would sometimes slip while running hills and that's a bit uncomfortable. Like the Torin, the Lone Peak has a very wide toe box. I kept tripping over tree roots, because I'm unaccustomed to running with such a wide toed shoe, but with time I think I'll get used to it. It's a very comfy shoe and it offers great protection from the ground without depriving you of the feel of it. I've run with these shoes a few times now and I like them, but I think I'll stick with Salomon from now on. The Lone Peak just doesn't seem to offer the same amount of support and stability as I'm used to in Salomon trail shoes.
