The brand long believed that a running shoe should not encourage a heel strike, but rather should let the body move naturally. After cutting down a running shoe heel and testing a zero-drop shoe, they saw how it reduced injury and changed several lives for the better, even bringing running back into the lives of a few who never thought it possible. Using a zero-drop platform, foot-shaped lasts and gender-specific designs, Altra Zero Drop brings a blend of barefoot freedom with shod protection.
The brand prides itself on their design of cushioned, foot-shaped minimalist running shoes that do not feature an elevated heel. This innovative platform allows for a more natural foot strike and a more efficient ride. The gender-specific toe box construction follows the natural shape of the foot, providing enhanced comfort, increased balance and stride efficiency.
Altra Zero Drop strives to bring natural running shoes to the masses and believes natural running can make a difference in people’s lives, as well as make running fun. Life is short. Run better!

Great shoe for promoting midfoot strike. Has cushioning for those longer runs, but less structured support than the Torin (I love both models). Love the wide toe cup so my toes can splay. Very comfy shoe.

I love you, Altra. Finally a shoe shaped like a real-live person's foot! I developed a neuroma from tapered-toe shoes and Altras are by far my favorite shoes now. I wear them whenever it is socially acceptable! I have some Miz Mooz boots with a wider toe box for when I'm forced to dress up. Try Altras with the Correct Toes device if you have bunions, neuromas, metatarsalgia, etc! Cheaper than my $300 custom orthotics and actually works (unlike the aforementioned orthotics!).

In my opinion, the zero drop feature is the most important thing to look for if you are trying to duplicate the barefoot experience but with a layer of cushy cushion. The toe box is generous, but the shoe feels very cozy overall, and my foot doesn't rattle around inside, even when I lace up loosely. Two sets of insoles let me choose my arch support, so I run with the foot strengthening ones to resemble my barefoot experience. The others offer medium arch support. I have Morton's toe, bunions, and runner's knee. I still love my Vibram Five Fingers, but the shoes that use the Vibram footbed to create a shoe haven't succeeded like Altra Zero Drop, in my opinion. I wear a 7.5 in a street shoe, and need an 8.5 in these. When I bought Altra's other models (I have the Provisioness and Delilah), I needed a 9.

This is the first pair of athletic shoes that I have tried that felt great on my feet. I have tried other brands of shoes and was disappointed. I spend a vast majority of my time barefoot, without any pain. I am a stay at home mom so this barefoot trait is well accommodated. Anyhow, the very first time I put these shoes on, I was in love. Wearing them is just like walking around barefoot. I used them on the treadmill to run/walk and went the furthest I ever had and had zero pain, right out of the box. Truly satisfied...the only thing I am not super crazy about are the available colors....but hey, the shoe is great so I can live with the color.

I have tried on various brands, Brooks, Orthoheel, and New Balance. This shoe is the only one that has a wide enough toe area and it still feels a little wide for a medium width. When I tighten the laces it puckers a little in the top area and feels great though. At least it doesn't pressure my toe area and plenty of room in the toe box. I usually wear a 6 1/2 shoe. These are 7 1/2 and they are perfect in length. I usually get a 7 in an athletic shoe because I always wear a heavier sock...these are fine in a 7 1/2. I would like a style that looked more like a casual shoe of everyday wear. These look like an exercise/running shoe. Thanks. Altra
