The brand long believed that a running shoe should not encourage a heel strike, but rather should let the body move naturally. After cutting down a running shoe heel and testing a zero-drop shoe, they saw how it reduced injury and changed several lives for the better, even bringing running back into the lives of a few who never thought it possible. Using a zero-drop platform, foot-shaped lasts and gender-specific designs, Altra Zero Drop brings a blend of barefoot freedom with shod protection.
The brand prides itself on their design of cushioned, foot-shaped minimalist running shoes that do not feature an elevated heel. This innovative platform allows for a more natural foot strike and a more efficient ride. The gender-specific toe box construction follows the natural shape of the foot, providing enhanced comfort, increased balance and stride efficiency.
Altra Zero Drop strives to bring natural running shoes to the masses and believes natural running can make a difference in people’s lives, as well as make running fun. Life is short. Run better!

These are the greatest shoes ever. The run half a size short of my old running shoes (bye bye brooks) It took a few runs to get used to the Zero drop, but the foot shaped toe box allows my toes to spread out and now I'm enjoying my running more than ever before. No more pain in my knees. Awesome!

I really enjoyed the added cushion under the ball of the feet. Only issue for me with this shoe is that the heel was a bit too loose. Perhaps using the loop style tying method found on Altra's website will help, haven't tried yet. Shoe is very comfortable for walking around in. First pair of Altra's coming off wearing Brooks Pure Flow and New Balance MR 10. I have run with them for over 3 weeks putting on about 35 miles per week and I can only say I LOVE THESE SHOES! Great fit, nice wide toe box and fast! These shoes have given me another gear that I did not know I had in me. They are light, comfortable and fast. I have run up to 12 miles in them and plan to run a half marathon in a month wearing these same shoes. If you are running minimal and neutral, try these shoes!

I liked the shoe, but they wear out so quickly. Altra seems to have dropped any support at this point. They no longer answer their phones, so they don't have to honor the 30 day return. I tried two different pairs to make sure it was their materials, and it is. Whatever they are using for soles wears out so quickly they aren't worth the money.
I'd also recommend: Inov8, Brooks, Saucony
