I purchased a pair of these shoes. Very snug fit, but very comfortable. First time I wore them on business trip, the heel fell off. I called the Allen Edmonds and asked for a store in Manhattan, NYC to exchange the shoes. Their reply was I could only send them back to the company, no retail stores in Manhattan, NYC. I got home walking, with great difficulty, to Washington DC with one heel broken off. Sent shoes back and then the company told me that this shoe did not fit my size 8D and that I should buy another, quite a bit more expensive. I did purchase the shoes and two years later the the shoes were so painful that I tossed them into my closet never to be worn again. A lot of money down the tubes.

Superb construction, classic styling. Obviously pricey, but it is a high end shoe. Fairly true to size, but might be a bit narrow to some people. Ordered it in 3E and they fit well, but still snug. For those needing wider widths, I would recommend going all the way to the widest available.

Maxfield review - Tho only negative thing about this shoe is that if you have wide feet it takes a little breaking in for the leather across the top of the shoe to get comfortable. Other than that I am extremely happy with the shoes.

Made in America - Just a short note to express the Allen-Edmonds shoe. I have purchased a Chilli and Black colored pair, amazingly the both fit the same!! Good old American workmanship. Yes, it does cost a little more but, I did not have to take them to be stretched, or buy liners to make the heel part fit! You get what you pay for! Thanks for allowing me to express my feelings about this product.

Another Allen-Edmond's Classic - These are the best looking casual/dress shoe I have ever owned. They are very comfortable and truly look like they might be upscale, as they are.

Made in the U.S.! I find it unfortunate that one cannot judge quality based on most brands anymore, but A-E never disappoints me. Nice construction looks better than the photos. I probably would not want to walk around the streets of NY in them only because the fine leather sole would take a beating, but that is not where these shoes belong. My feet are wide so many of the made in Italy shoes are tight; A-E's fit my feet much better.

AE Maxfields - All of my AE fits well, feels great and this one did not disappoint. AE makes a tremendous shoe & pretty much is the only shoe in my closet. The only complaint is I am a little bit disappointed in the look, not much just a little bit.

The right shoe is tighter than the left shoe in the foot area and both are loose in the ankle. They look nice. Too bad they hurt my feet.

A fashionable boat - I wear a size 14D shoe, so I often have few choices. Allen Edmonds makes great shoes, and the Maxfield loafers I bought from Zappos are nice looking (although huge) and comfortable.

Maxfield’s - The Maxfield exemplifies the quality construction and high-end looks of Allen-Edmonds' footwear. It's true to size, width and comfortable to wear all day. The shoe's styling goes well with business dress and casual wear.

These Maxfield's rock! You can feel the difference between a shoe made in China, someplace in Europe and those made in the US. Having been a Clarks (made in England) shoe zealot for years, I bought a pair of Allen's and fell in love with them. The quality, look and finish are second to none. For those not used to walking on leather soles, it takes some getting used to, especially over rocks or small pebbles, but other than that, you'll enjoy years of service out of these...And, if they need new soles, A-E offers resoling services.
Other Brands Recommended by Reviewer: Any A-E shoes that are made in the USA.

Not a Wall Street Shoe - I ordered these shoes as a second pair of black work shoes to wear in downtown Manhattan. I have other shoes from Allen-Edmonds. This shoe is NOT the quality of their traditional work shoes. It does not provide the comfort or support to handle city streets. It is nice looking and should be reserved for nice evenings out where you are relatively light on your feet.

This is a nice shoe - I like the look and feel of this shoe. I had read in the reviews that A-E sizes run a little small and adjusted my order accordingly. The shoe looks great for casual and dressy occasions.

Great Shoes - I normally wear a 9.5W but ordered a 10EEE based on review that they run a little small. The fit was great. The first day I wore them I forgot they were new shoes. This is my first pair of AE but won't be my last. Thanks Zappos for the wide widths.

Black Shoe - If you have to have a pair of black dress/casuals, you'll love this shoe. It gives you extreme good comfort with very good looks (notwithstanding that good looks are in the eye of the beholder). You can feel this shoe breath. The quality of the leather and craftsmanship needs to be compared to any other shoe (read cheaper). So go crazy and spend the money. The confidence you'll have wearing this shoe is worth the price. This is my second pair of A-E shoes.

Watch your size on this shoe - These shoes run a little on the tight side, I wear a D width in shoes and these feel like a C. Also the length is a little short, 10 1/2 feels more like 10-10 1/4. They also don't seem to stretch too easily. Nice looking shoe overall. I like it.
